Nile River Gunboat Diorama with Trophy Figures (1 Viewer)

Thank you, Tommy I will double check mine...BTW on the small gun boat most figures came from other standard sets so I expect that they retained their original base colors.

Beautiful boat:cool:, I am making room to berth one next to my Paddle Steamer;)

Thank you Tommy for the definitive answer regarding the colour of the bases.

Cheers

Martyn:)

Just my experience, but boats don't stop quickly unless they hit something, especially a boat as large (and slow) as a paddle-wheeler.

That is a lovely boat, sandbags or no sandbags.

Stunning set absolutely stunning

Hi Mike: Trophy Nile paddlewheeler but no white bases.

Wow,
You guys have really stepped the Trophy "River" themes up a notch! What great scenes and figures and boats all around!

Hi Mike,

Thanks very much for posting a very interesting Trophy Nile River diorama.

There are some very nice early Trophy Egypt/Sudan sets.

In addition to the white based figures on board the boat, there are quite a few oval based figures too.

Raymond.:)

Raymond,

I noticed that right away, too. I believe that Gary made this diorama some years ago. It must have been when one could fairly easily still acquire the round base figures. Some of the fgures (e.g., the Sussex Regt figures seated in the whale boat) are what I refer to the "skinny" early castings as opposed to later, more robust looking castings.

I'll second that, thanks Tommy for your reply regarding the bases. Your diorama is outstanding! Do you have any close-ups?

Dave,

That's what I thought, too. But never having owned a boat and having served in the Army and not the Navy, I defer to others on this topic.

BTW, are you the collector who traded several Trophy Boxer Rebellion sets with me several years ago? You also bought some of my extra sets.

I remember when my Dad taught me how to dock our 18fter. I drove it right up on the berth and flooded the stern.

The armored steamers had a lot of timber emplaced for "armor", and the sandbags were reserved for gun emplacements on the upper decks due to weight. At least thats what I read from the accounts. A wonderful period to read about, IMHO

Mike aka UCLA1967 Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the gunboat you created this thread for the same one that once was featured on Toy Soldiers of SD web site........The Lt.

I have never seen the TS of SD website, since I don't collect plastic figures. However, it is quite possible since the collector who made the diorama, Gary Fournier, does work for Nick (e.g., Alamo Buildings, etc.). Did the web site say who had made it or was it unattributed?

Mike I can't honestly remember who made it or if it was unattributed but I'm sure it's the same one that appeared in TSSD's section of their web site What Guys Do With Their "Guys & Stuff" which he's made changes to since I've seen it. Thanks for replying......Joe

Boerboy (Al) has posted some photos on the Trophy thread, Latest Additions, which shows his gun boat figures with white bases. There are also seated Sussex Regiment figures that are found in this dioramas whale boat.
