A much anticipated release to be sure. Nice to see a wider variety of pieces than previously sneak peeked. Some good sculpts in this bunch however I am going to reserve judgement on them until I see some real pictures posted by TREEFROGGERS.

My guess would be it is because many of the early WW2 figures have a similar facial sculpt, and overall not much expression/emotion is rendered. I have a number of Russian and German figures, but that is the one thing that bugs me. The FL AWI and Napoleonics I have display much more facial variety in both aspects. Painting is excellent though regardless.

Hi Gebs, that was suppose to be some kind of joke awhile back and refering to some of the WWII figures looking a like, I personally thought the comments were not needed but then again we all see things differently, just as Joe isn't fond of the new SS facial features I find them to be some of the best out there, but that's my opinion, as I'm sure some will strongly disagree with me differently, so be it, as the saying goes...It is what it is...Sammy

Of all the ranges FL makes, from a stylistic point of view this is my least favorite. In my opinion, it doesn't stack up to the Civil War, Renaissance (the Landesknechts are just tremendous), Napoleonics or Seven Years War (Frederick is outstanding).

Obviously, this is all personal but I just find them wanting.

I have FL Napoleonic, AWI and Renaissance and like them much more.

I had mentioned in a previous post that I like all but one aspect of the new SS and that is the facial sculpts. Like many of FL's WWII figures, the faces have a very flat affect or appear "soulless". You'll have to check w/ Mitch about what he meant by his comment. My guess is he was referring to one of two things. Some of the FL faces of the SS appear to have been reworked when compared to the preview pics of the same poses. Or perhaps he was referring to the reuse of facial sculpts in prior FL WWII releases creating an unusual similarity between figures. In any case I know FL has the ability to produce a variety of excellent facial sculpts as seen in their Vietnam figures among other ranges. But the SS faces are a far cry from that.

Thanks for the response to my question guys I think I get it now although I really don't agree with painting with such a big brush . I do see the face issue with the Artillery Crew and also somewhat with the Tank riders all having a similar look ...chunky cheeks and round heads which are not really German traits anyhow ^&confuse^&grin and IMO really don't look as good as the others . Of the 40 plus figures from the Stalingrad German line I have a good bit and think they are the finest WWII German figures I have seen, we even got a Ed Harris and Jay Leno look alike. Like they say we all have our own opinions and taste.......... for me in a side buy side comparison I'll choose first Legion over any other WWII Figures on the market every time . In fact they are the only WWII figures I will buy and can't wait to get my mitts on these new Waffen SS figures :salute:::salute:::wink2:. regards Gebhard

I just went to the FL site and looked at the faces on the Waffen SS figures from every angle you can and can only really get a good view of two of them, I just don't see a problem with them at all except for maybe the yelling officer but he looks not too bad as well. In fact I think they look darn good anyway to each his own I certainly am not gonna argue my point. I like em and that's really all that matters too me, I know plenty of guys with shelves full of figures I wouldn't own .. like they say to each his own . Buy what you like .. and smoke em if you got em.... LOL.. best my friend Gebhard

There's no doubt they're very nice figures, and the camo is stunning. I will definitely pick up a figure or two or maybe the MG team to see how they look in the flesh and then go from there, but first I must get started on the Caesarian Romans as I look forward to any word of some Gauls.

Got to agree with you here Brad. The FL Rebs are superb figures, really top stuff. Same for Bufords boys in blue.

I collect a few FL ranges....Naps, Stalingrad, Romans, and some Crusaders.....Simply the best TS product out there today in all those ranges....The Stalingrad Range is excellent....Please tell me which TS company has better "faces" on their WWII figures????.^&confuse....Over all First Legion Stalingrad is the best Eastern Front WWII product out there today. IMHO no one else even comes close to the quality sculpts, paint, detail and comprehensive releases in each range...I will definitely consider a few of FL Waffen Range..... Although at this time, I am focusing more on their Flagship Range...NAPS.............BUT....To each there own.:salute::

I would answer that by saying I compare the faces against other FL lines, not other manufacturers, otherwise this is simply baiting to get into another pointless us vs. them argument. I have FL Stalingrad, DAK, Crusaders, Napoleonics and AWI, and the WW2 figures have the least amount of variance in the facial sculpts. The painting, scale, style overall is excellent (which is FL's niche in the market), so that would be my only complaint. I have 6+ manufacturer's products, and appreciate them all on their own merits. They all have their own pluses and minuses, which defines their style, making them unique.

I sure didn't think the announcement of a much awaited range was going to turn into a "my First Legion guys look better then your First Legion guys"^&confuse..well, I guess we have evolved somewhat as it use to be "my First Legion guys are better then yada, yada" company etc...now we are just disagreeing with ranges of the same company, I can't figure is that a step forward or backward?? either way it would be refreshing to have a thread that the collectors collect enjoy it for what it is, I sure as hell don't bring up issues I may see with FL Naps, Civil War, etc. I see no point in it, I hope each First Legion collector is happy with what they buy.

Agreed. And, and these ss guys do look outstanding. I have no doubt when my dealer gets them. I will pick them up. Although I will be spread thin! SL, CW and now SS! When will this madness stop!
