I think thats why we have to have Shannon and Pete refereeing it so no funny business going on voting. Also the 3 manufacturers would not be allowed to vote either!
Hell I think it's such a great idea I would put in a number 1 of a production run as a prize if we got enough interest.

A contest of some sort would be great. Maybe Shannon and Pete can come up with something interesting - most sold or profitable (# sold x price). Or maybe each company could nominate one piece and let the members vote. A vote would be fun, but given that most of the participants are KC collectors that might be like asking who is the best female singer on a Britney Spears forum.

Hi Combat,

Last year, at the same date, there were only K&C collectors in the 1/30 scale. So, I disagree with your Britney Spears comparaison. I trust the honesty of the people and beleive, if a contest is created, that they will vote accordingly.

Pierre.

It's fine if K&C win - its only fun after all but at least we (the manufacturers) could put something into the forum.
However there are some people out there who might disagree with you Combat especially ref the HB Panther, which although I have not seen it, have heard it is just fantastic. Anyway there are still 5 months to go to end of the year so lets just see what comes along! :)

I hope your right.

Hey guys,
Great thread, The contest is a great Idea, as the hobby grows catagories could expand and I can think of no better people to run this than treefrog.
As for parciality, I love my K&C no doubt, but I'm not blind to how good NMA and HB are, there like a fresh breeze. Not to mention the fact that I have at least one of EVERY piece NMA has produced! (1)

I like the idea of a contest but why not have some experts in the field make the decision. As HB and NMA become more established perhaps this is something that could be done at the Chicago Show, maybe not this year but next year.

Gentle Friends,

I, too, like the idea of a contest. I especially like the idea of a drawing for those who have cast their vote. I would certainly participate and I believe that most of us would cast votes according to our honest opinions and that K&C loyality would be only a minor factor.

The greatest challenge I see is how to maximize the voting. For example, if the contest occurs at the Chicago Show, only those collectors fortunate enough to attend the show get a chance at the prize. If Treefrog monitors the voting, only those on the forum or those on Treefrog's mailing list get to participate. The same holds true if the voting is conducted through a Toy Soldier publication or magazine. Oh, well, I guess no system is perfect.

Regardless of the voting challenges, I am in favor of the contest. Let the games begin! :)

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hello Blake and Mike! The NEW Fallschrimjaeger Set, are Great; but as i Suggested to you Guys's, we Need WEAPONS TEAMS, for the Fallschrimjaeger! This would be "AWESOME",and a Quick Seller! Take Care, John Gambale! Keep up this Great Production!

Re: competition

This is an interesting idea. We are mulling over the different ways it could be done.

We'll check in later with some ideas.

You should have said 'hello' Monty, everybody else from the forum did and it would have been nice to put a face to the name. Yes I thought the K&C Tank Riders looked great on the winter Strurmtiger - they will hopefully see sales of that set increase now that there is a BOB heavy tank coming out. Although with only 375 winter Sturmies available I don't expect to see them hang around long.

Blake i came by twice and you were very busy so i took a couple of shots with my son and moved on. Would be great to have chatted but you looked like you were striking a deal, so did not want to interupt. Then my son found the actors outside so i went for a fag whilst he sat in the jeep!

I also think a contest is a great idea. And before everybody accuses me of being biased in favor of K&C, as long as it involves a tracked vehicle, I don't think they stand a chance. For my money Honour Bound and Figarti are head and shoulders better than K&C in the present armored vehicle production. I suggest that for the contest to be fair, all companies must display a tracked vehicle that is ready for production. I would suggest that every forum member be permitted one vote, with the ballots being a print out of the screen name of each member, on a background chosen by Pete & Shannon. Each person would validate his or her ballot by printing his or her forum password on it. This way there could be no duplicate ballots. Company owners, of course, would not be permitted a vote. All the votes for the winning vehicle could be put in a hat, and a winner chosen at random.

I think it would be useful to somehow factor sales into any contest since that captures a larger group than just active forum members. Regardless, it might be interesting for Treefrog to post a top five sales list each month just to see how the market compares to our personal opinions. KC UK does something like that although it does not seem to change very often.

Combat

Your good idea against sales however........(and this is just a throw in the breeze statement) surley it would be based on market value ie little unfair on NMA when they have only produced at the moment a small number of items against the larger K&C etc. So unless your going to compare same number ie K&C strictly limiteds against a similar run of NMA and HB. As if it is against a general release item it is outbalanced.

Louis idea is a good one.

re our best sellers your right does not change often as at the moment it is a manual system which i am working on to be automated. However we are selling fast the British Sherman so that is still the best seller.

regards

Tony

I don't think a beauty contest is a very good idea. Everybody just votes their favorites. What I would like to see is a panel of 3 recognized experts in the field, judging a piece on its merits, broken down into various categories: historical accuracy, sculpting, painting, use of colors, etc.

If we are going to have a beauty contest, my vote goes to the Eqyptain dancing girls!!!!! Huba, huba.:D

3 experts? please, who cares what "experts" have to say, like the "experts who tell you what great works of art that pile of trash in a museum is or the ones that tell you how bad your favorite movie was? No, this should be decided by us, the ones that buy, the ones that bare there passion on there sleeves, that show no shame in there passion.
Frankly I could care less what some pompus "expert" has to say about anything, my passion and my eye and love of this stuff along with all the other "regular Guys" is much more important to me.

Hi Guys,

I like the idea of a vote if the folks like me who cant get to Chicago will be able to vote on line. The Balloting suggested by Louis I think with a screen name etc would be a really great idea. As for the experts thats an interesting idea but who are the best people for this? We could argue until the cows come home but I will suggest the peole I would consider, first off I would say they should be from a company not in the 1/30 business so there is no bias. So here is my list of folks I would ask, Ken Osen or David Youngquist or Richard Walker from the new team over at Britians one of them and a Store owner such as Paul Herrman from the Toy Soldier Shoppe or Bill Sager and the 3rd person might be a wild card like a collector, someone who is recognized by others on the forum as an expert like Louis or Brad. The ballots would add the other dimension and act like another vote so everyones opinion would be considered.

Anyway, this would be a very fun project and I hope it comes together.

Dave

No reason that this has to be limited to one particular method. Would be interesting to compare the result of straight voting, panel of "expert" opinions, and sales. I do think we would have to have a ballot of some sort nominating one or two pieces from each company or the voting will be all over the place.

I didn't think my proposal would cause such a stir but I like Dave's ideas. Perhaps a combination of voting and experts would be good. I believe that several years ago, that's what baseball did with its all star voting. One of the problems with just voting is that it leads to stuffing the ballot and that's what also happened with baseball when they just had fan voting. But a combination of someone in the trade, a retailer and perhaps a well known collector would be a good idea. I would nominate someone like Louis fro the collector expert because although he is an unabashed K & C collector, he is very unbiased and analytical as well.
