No reason that this has to be limited to one particular method. Would be interesting to compare the result of straight voting, panel of "expert" opinions, and sales. I do think we would have to have a ballot of some sort nominating one or two pieces from each company or the voting will be all over the place.

Combat,

You post a very interesting suggestion. I would be very interested to see if the collectors, the experts, and the dealers would agree/disagree on which pieces constituted the "best."

I think it might also be interesting if the various companies (K&C, Honour Bound, etc.) determined which pieces they wanted to submit as their best piece. Further, it might be interesting to see if the manufacturers submitted the same nominated pieces as the collectors and/or the dealers might nominate. All of this "nomination" might be too complicated to really pull off, but it would be interesting nonetheless.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I'm all for this competition it sounds great to me, I don't think we need any so called experts because I think this should be a collectors thing. After all some of the 'experts' might be biased themselves to one manufacturer or biased against them in some cases!!

Plans continue to come along for a potential "competition." Andy of K&C is off in Scotland somewhere so he hasn't even seen the thread yet. I've talked to Honour Bound and New Model Army and currently we are considering the following:

One way to do it would be to have all three vehicles on display in the Treefrog room at the Chicago show and allow people to vote there (with name and address), then post pictures of all the vehicles on the forum and let people vote there. The forum software doesn’t allow people to vote more than once so we would check and make sure people who voted at the show didn’t vote once there and once on line. That would give forum members and Chicago show goers equal opportunity to vote. We could have them rank the tanks in order of 1-3 and once the votes were tallied we could choose one name from each group that picked a specific vehicle as best so the three winners would all receive their favorite instead of one receiving all. If we keep it on the forum we will have a limited number of about 200 members voting and not seeing them in person.
Honour Bound and New Model Army are interested in "playing". We'll see what K&C thinks. What do you all think?

Happy to see that the idea I advanced as a "funny thing to do" had grow so big, so fast. Count on me.

Pierre.

Shannon,

I say, "Let the games begin!" I think this is a really fun idea and I look forward to participating and to the results. I also like the idea of three persons receiving the tank of their choice rather than one winner takes all.

You, and the manufacturers are to be complimented for considering this idea in such a warm, friendly, cooperative, and fun manner. All of you are greatly adding to the fun of this hobby!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Shannon,

Bring it on! And collectors only no "experts". We hear that term every day and the more I hear it the less it means,. It's the collectors who support these manufacturers, let the collector decide.:)

I assume the dealer/manufacturer will select which vehicles they want to enter. That alone will be interesting. Could be an all winter theme with KC Tiger and HB Panther.

I love this idea. Count on my vote.

Even the German tank crews love this idea. The picture says it all.

Toricda,

Your picture is clever, clever, clever! I love it! :D

We have all kinds of things coming out of the woodwork here. This ought to be fun. I am very interested to see how this plays out.

I'm all in! I hope Andy will join the fun. I bet he's got something cooking to counter the quality shift in favor of HB. Let the games begin!

Oh, and by the way, I am truly honored by the suggestion that I am an expert on Toy Soldiers, but I am far from qualified. I may know a little bit about who made what and when, but I am no expert on military vehicles, uniforms or camouflage. I also agree with the consensus that collectors, not experts, should judge what they like best.

How about a straight vote, but you have to be a Sargent or above, to show you have some experience. With the 'Get Real" movement growing, I think NMA and HB will be on even ground with K&C. By February 2007, after NMA and HB come out with more stuff. I think the best manufacturer will be apparent. I trust the members to be objective, it is in the best interest of the Hobby...Alex

I'm not sure what you mean by best but you can be sure that King and Country will be making innovations of its own in how it makes its vehicles.
