No doubt the improving detail has made the K & C range more acceptable and I'm sure most collectors appreciate the accuracy of most later pieces. However some collectors just like to collect pieces that represent the early history of a company. And no doubt the earlier pieces will remain in demand to some as there were fewer of them made. For example I reckon the old K & C aircraft with blue painted canopies really suck compared to clear plastic versions but I'm past being critical of people that collect them. Of course if they try and convince other collectors the blue paints are better I'll certainly post my counterpoint :)

OZ - You also said in a previous post that you can't change anyones mind, and you are right. JAZZ - you said there is room for everyone's tastes, and you are right. CHUCK - As far as I am concerned the skirmish is over as is stated in my posts to him. And as I said in the past the wallet will tell. I will continue to speak up for what I believe in, but it has to be limited to the proper threads, and directed at the manufacturers both publicly and privately and walletly. Time to start working on some good dioramas, not the junk I just did, I got to get my standards back up......... Firebat

This thread has changed from a critique of the set to a contest between manufacturers and then a contest, or was it a fight :) amongst collectors - same old story really :)

Btw, has anybody actually seen the set? I commented on another thread that some manufactures don't pay nearly enough attention to the photography and other promotion aspects of their products. Collectors like to be informed of up and coming sets. However I feel they shouldn't be promoted to far in advance of their intended release date as often something goes astray (insert Scottish phrase here).

After seeing the new pics of the HB Winter Panther would say our contest will be no contest. They might enter the Bergepanther/Panther combo as a surprise, but they clearly are a long way out in front of the competition. That's not a knock on anyone else, more a reflection on how great HB looks.

Hi Combat,

Il ne faut pas vendre la peau de l'ours avant de l'avoir tué.

The tank in the upcoming winter Panther set is great but what about the figures? HB had proved nothing in that matter.

Obviously, you put the emphasis on the vehicules which is not my case. In that sense, the K&C Panther is a better purchase for me than all the Panthers from HB.

Also, don't forget NMA with their Sturmtiger. The figure that goes with it seems great.

Finally, I must say that, in my opinion, the kitchen field set is the more promising from HB, K&C and NMA.

My best regards,
Pierre.

I do see the figures as largely accessories to the tank. They can be displayed or not as some have decided with the NMA 232 figure. KC is definitely the leader on those at this point. But the pics of the HB Winter Panther figures show great improvement - comparable to or maybe even better than KC. The proof though is in the final product so we will see shortly. The NMA Sturm looks very good and bodes well for the company.

The proof is in the pudding as they say. I'm also not sure how profitable it is to say that one group of figures is better than the other. Although I prefer the K & C figures, I would just say that the HB figures are different than the K & C ones and I am very interested to see what they look like. We have different artistic conceptions here of what a soldier should look like and there appears to be nothing wrong with that.

Plans continue to come along for a potential "competition." Andy of K&C is off in Scotland somewhere so he hasn't even seen the thread yet. Honour Bound and New Model Army are interested in "playing". We'll see what K&C thinks. What do you all think?

Shannon/Pete-
Any update on this competition?

I have said before that i think that the NMA Sturmtiger and figure is the only vehicle and figure set i would be totally happy to sit alongside my K&C.Although the Winter Panther from HB looks very good, for me their figures just don't cut it(so far).I suppose its all down to how each person displays their stuff.Does anyone else think they might display the HB Panther with KC crew?.From what i have seen so far HB figures look a little bit on the thin side.I think as someone said above things are starting to bode well for NMA.

Overall though for me K&C are still way ahead.

Rob-
I think we will find out a lot more about the HB figures this week when the Winter Panther finally arrives. The figures look much improved in the pictures and seem more consistent with the thicker KC sculpts. I agree with you that the Sturm appears to be NMA's best effort so far. They are doing some good work. I particularly like their idea of producing multiple versions of a vehicle. That is great for collectors. I wish KC would take that up. In my opinion though, the HB vehicles are hands down the best at this point. Have you actually seen one in person?

Hi Combat,

No i must confess i have only seen the pics on HB website. So do you think that the HB winter Panther would sit nicely next to the KC Winter Tiger?.Because if they did i think i would be interested in that little scenario.I also see what you mean about the Panther crew, they do seem a little more filled out than the first Panther crews. So i am becoming more tempted, its just my loyalty and gut feeling draw me to K&C.I saw NMA's Sturm's in London and they do look fantastic and so i quickly preordered one.(winter)

As you say i to like that NMA do different versions and it would be cool if K&C did this sometimes. So are we saying that apart perhaps from some diff in the crews,NMA K&C AND HB Tanks can all sit next to each other?.If they could and it looked good i would be a very happy/poor man.

Do yourself a favor and buy one of the HB tanks. I would go with the Winter Panther. It should go nicely with your KC Tiger. Someone posted pics comparing the size of the HB and KC Panther and they were very close - HB a tiny bit larger. If you don't like the HB figures - which I doubt - you can always put some KC winter tank riders on it.

Combat,do you know what? you've just sold it to me!I like the sound of it and will get one on order. Thanks for your advice

Rob.

A good point for buying another mfg.vehicle, is that ,because K/C usually gives you 3 to 4 figures for each of their vehicles, you always have extra to spread out among your collection. I have already seen on ebay, various other mfg. figures being sold separately.....Michael

Combat,

You're about the KC Tank size comparison to HB. agian you're, about the figures, KC Figures are still the best around and are perfect with the HB tanks. Though I do like some of the poses on the HB figures.

Have fun Rob,

Carlos

Go for it, Rob. The HB winter panther looks awesome, buy yourself a set of K&C winter tanks riders and you've got yourself a great little display. Add the K&C winter tiger, the Grille, the winter patrol, a few Build-a-Rama bits and pieces, it doesn't get much better than that.:D

Blake would probably like us to go back to NMA products. So good hunting Rob.

Thanks you guys,if i don't like the HB crew when it comes i will use/buy some spare KC crew.

Rob

How many of you guys will be buying the Schwimwagon and in what variation.Again i suppose if you don't like the NMA figures you could use K&C,that chap that came with the Hetzer might look good next to a Schwim.

Rob.
