Read this news again today that the Oakland Raiders owner and team reps are looking at San Antonio, Texas as being their new home.
The Alamo Dome would become their new home field. Should be interesting. Another team for my Bud Hotel3Alpha !!!

Wayne...I saw that on ESPN last night...very interesting...I hope they do...

get your silver and black ready...

They must be one of the most peripatetic organizations, next to the Braves and the Lakers. Wonder if the NFL will allow it.

I'm supposing they can't get a new stadium built in the Northern California even though I thought they sold out every game. Too bad. I hope they find someway to stay in Oakland as that is where they belong.

Brad:

Weird perspective for me, I call the Bay Area and San Antonio home (splitting time between both places).

The Raiders do not sell out every game as a matter of fact most games are blacked out locally.

Apparently the Raiders have asked Alameda County to tear down the old Coliseum and built a football only stadium in its place. There are way too many obstacles to doing that. Among them is the fact that the A's juts signed a new 10 year lease to play in the Coliseum. I hope they stay in Oakland too, but it is a huge mess.

Jason,

Don't the Davis' have enough money to build their own stadium. I understand the plight of the As but I think the Raiders should be rolling in it, just like every other NFL franchise.

Is the Alamo Bowl in better shape than the Coliseum?

Brad:

I think that the Davis family has plenty of money, they are just squeezing Oakland. The A's want to move but the Giants will not let them move anywhere else in the Bay Area claiming territorial rights.

The Alamo Dome is really nice. Clean, plenty of parking etc.

And like I said, as much as I would like San Antonio to get a pro football team, the Raiders really do belong in Oakland.

Gents,

First, the Davis Family needs to....CALL THIER CONGRESSMAN!!! That is a joke from another thread. They got the dough to build another stadium, but won't because they want the city to pay for it, which requires a bond vote and passage.

Jerry, built his own and ownes it, runs it and rules it. Jerry does not want another franchise in Texas as a lot of DC fans are in South Texas. Jerry will do anything to kill it the deal at his level, i.e owners vote.

Silver and black is cool, but Oakland needs to stay in Oakland. That is where they became what they are. Don't get me wrong I loved the Raiders when I was a kid...Plunkett, Allen and Alzado. But, they were Oakland then and forever.

The Alamo Dome is Henry Cisneros's is White Elephant gift to San Antonio. It is pretty, it is HUGE, it is taken care of daily and does nothing...but **** it looks good in the skyline. It is practically brand new after being around for almost 30 years. It is a home or nothing but garden shows, a concert or two, and the occasional sporting event.

However comma, when a soccer match is played there it is filled to the brim.

Fun fact for you; the original name for the Raiders was going to be........................ready?..............wait for it.....................the Senors..........change the name and they'll be fine in San Antonio..................they've got the right team colors for it, they'll fit in well.

Two of my favorite non Patriots teams all time were the 1980 and 1983 Raiders; the 1980 Raiders had Plunkett as the QB, he was drafted #1 by the Patriots and took a pounding, got traded to the 49ers and took a bigger pounding, then was taken off the scrap heap by the Raiders and he was reborn. Led them to the Super Bowl where they pounded the Eagles.

The 1983 Raiders were a machine, they destroyed the Redskins in the Super Bowl.

Two great teams for sure..................

Awesome take George! Gotta love the silver & black, especially the 76 team, that was my favorite Raider team. Their only loss that magical year was to the Patriots. They met again later in the year in the playoffs, and the Raiders won that meeting, but barely and not without controversy. So many of my favorites were on the team...coach Madden, Villapiano, Shell (also on 80 club), Dalby (on 80 & 83 teams too), Ted the stork Hendricks (was on the 80 & 83 teams as well), Stabler, Casper (on 80 team also), Old Man Willie Brown, Branch (80 & 83 too), Biletnikoff, Upshaw (80 too), Skip dr death Thomas, Van Eeghen, Sistrunk, Matuszak (80 team too), Guy (on the 80 & 83 teams too), Clarence Davis, and the wicked duo or Atkinson and Tatum. Toughest Raider squad ever! Those were the days of some bad-a%* football!!!

I tend to be old school and think it is unfortunate for a franchise to change cities. Why move the Rams to St. Louis and then the Cardinals to AZ? And leave LA with no NFL football team for decades? It is also ridiculous to except the tax payers in some city to ante up millions of dollars for a stadium in a sport that takes in billions in profits. The politicians seem to love it when they can entice a team to move to their city with these kinds of incentives, but the tax payers hate it. BTW: I attended the Raiders-Seahawks AFC championship game back in the 80's when they played in LA. Be careful what you wish for. The Raiders' fans are a piece of work. And not in a good way. Interesting to watch them square off with the LAPD on the field after the game. The LAPD would randomly baton about one out of each ten fans that ran past.

Combat,

Yeah, how could one forget about the fans! Raider fans are super loyal and crazy to boot. Man, to move the team away from the fans...again...would just be way uncool. I would be devastated if the Spurs left San Antonio...I cannot even imagine it!

Though I was neither yes or no about it and am from San Antone...I vote against it.

The San Diego Chargers in San Antonio? Okay, whatever, but I am telling you it will be hard to get another franchise in Texas with Jerry around. You are so right about the politicians...they love to be the "one" who can take all the credit. But, sadly the deals are terrible for the taxpayers and I mean terrible.

I learned long ago that these high profile press trips whether for sport franchises, TV shows or "national auditions" are just that...for free press. Get people talking and get free press. So, it is hot air to get the attention of home base.
