Ok Who Done It? (1 Viewer)

Although I think it's a nice piece, especially for when it was made, with all due respect, I just don't think there is really any comparison to the later King & Country version or the Figarti version in terms of detail. The one pictured is from Louis' collection.

With all due respect to Brad, a less than stellar amateur digital photo of the early K&C piece that doesn't even come close to doing it justice is hardly a fair comparison up against the professional shots take of the more recent models. For one thing, if you flip over the original Truck, you will see a perfect undercarriage (with detailed transmission and suspension) far superior to the present K&C model. Then there is the fact that the tailgate is hinged and has a working latch. Further, if you weather the old model so the details show up (like the Andy and Rick have done with the newer models, you will see a lot of the details present on the original that don't show up on the poorly lit amateur shot. I have set all three side by side, and the early K&C wood and metal version stands up just fine.

Okay time for some photos!

Louis would you do the honors:D:D

Always nice to get a few detailed shots of the classic pieces:D

Okay, who grabbed the SAS03 off Ebay?:eek:

Come on.......fess up!:D

Just sitting there with a $650 opening bid....reserve not met:eek::eek:

Whoosh.......no longer for sale:eek::eek:

Anybody taking credit out there:rolleyes::rolleyes::eek:

Going Going..........GONE!

$650 plus.....Hm, lets see, less detail....less everything compared to the newer versions........Yes definitely worth it:rolleyes

Okay you don't like it.........big suprise.:D We all know some people wouldn't

buy it.....okay already, we get it. Some of us like the older stuff, and we

would buy it.....get it?

Since we aren't asking you for a loan why bother to comment?

Frankly no I don't get it, I started this thread to find out who picked up an

interesting early King & Country piece. Which we did, some comments were

made compairing it to the modern copies......fine, no problem. Most of the

people commenting liked the piece, or series and were basicly speaking about

the details of the different pieces.

I don't think there is anyone on the planet that doesn't know your views on

Ebay, prices, values........do you have to inject them into every thread?

We get it.......and frankly a lot of us just don't care:D

Blah Blah Yawn

Let's cool the rhetoric between the two of you please.

Regarding the photo I posted, the "amateur" photo was done by Bill Sager and I think I helped him set that one up. If I took it would be amateur but Bill's photos are hardly that.

Despite your views, I just don't think it measures up to today's versions. You admittedly don't like polystone and think that the older vehicles are wonderful. I just don't they compare to today's models.

It's like the difference between the old warbirds and the new ones: no comparison.

Those are my views and you have yours. We will just have to disagree on this one.

Ron:

You just don't see them offered for sale that often! Its always nice to be

able to ad a "Special Piece" to your collection!

No Question - one of a kind or limited issue pieces are great show pieces for a collection !

I guess my point was the one that Brad had done with the photographs of all the vehicles we were discussing.

A $1,000 USD price tag - (I am sure that is were it probally ended up ;) ) - is a big chuck for a model which is being made today at a better quality - IMHO.

But, hey - whatever makes you boat float - right ? :D

Old K&C Pieces are great collectables - but, again as Brad pointed out - King & Country is really making some great stuff right now for less money - Again IMHO.

I, like Njja, Louis, etc like the old stuff. It is really cool to set it up beside the new stuff and compare. I also though have to be conscious of the wallet! Therefore, I try to pick out the bargains. BUT a piece such as this is awesome and I am happy Hans got it. Really cool, Njja, our day will come!!
I still need a ws 15, 23, 25, etc................. see what I mean!

Ron: Always nice to chat with you!

First off I consider the rarity of the piece. Most collectors have different
things that interest them. I like unique pieces, not normally available, in the
fields that interest me. Its not about the price, its the hunt....and the fun of
acquiring a difficult item.

I have several of the King & Country LRDG vehicles, and a couple of Figarti's
they are both great.....but you bet I would love to add the SAS03 to my collection.

What do I want to pay for it......well its more fun to get a nice buy on a rare
piece if possible, if not each collector has to use his own judgement.

To me its always been more fun to find a unique piece....then to simply buy
a stock item off the shelf.

When President Busch & Nancy Pelosi walk into your DC office what do you
show them first? Your rare Napoleonic crown borrowed from The Louve:eek:

or the Joan of Arc figure you picked up in Paris:D

Hi Brad,

Thanks for posting these comparative pictures. Based on the pictures, I must agree with your *****sment. The older piece is nice, especially for the time in which it was released, but it does not seem to compare favorably with the detail presented in the later sets. Nevertheless, it would be a great piece to have in one's collection.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I reckon most collectors find the prices for these older less detailed sets way over the top. But I guess if your into the old stuff it would be just the thing for your collection.

I think the piece is cool, don't misunderstand me, but just don't think it really fits in with the new ones, especially if since I only have the new LRDG. Putting it side by side would be odd. Now, I have the new and old Arnhem and obviously don't show them together. If I can get my hands on one of the old Arnhem Jeeps, I would do so because I can make it work.

John,

I think that will be the last thing on his mind if they walk into his office:D

Tom thats what collecting is all about!

You never know what you may find tomorrow! I have enjoyed doing it

everyday for over 30 years now, and its great fun everytime you find

another item.

Not to say its for everyone, different collectors have different interests.

But I must admit I enjoy the hunt.:D

Njja

I love old pieces - just like the next guy - but, sometimes the pricetag makes me go OUCH !!

Agree the trill of the hunt is the game to be played - I love Ebay for that reason. Nothing like picking up something you have wanted for awhile and catch it when it seems everyone is sleeping :D

That TRILL is how I felt a few months ago when I got this beauty (below) in my collection ;) Man - I wanted that LEE TANK - DD24 - for a long time.

Tom,

You know there's a WS 15 on ebay right now. I have two of the three WS 23 Panthers and love 'em. Regarding the WS 25, I still think it's the best Tiger K & C has done. One of my faves.

Ron:

Of course, in 99% of the cases its not money, its about finding the item and
landing it. I bought the SAS01 figure from this seller.....but I was in a fog. When I saw him list the SAS03 I thought....."Oh this is going to be fun":eek:........If they ever build another Titanic......I should apply for the Lookout Job:eek:

But thats the fun of the hunt, its not enough to see the item.....you have to
land it!

If not, its fun to see who did, and appreciate the effort he put into finding and obtaining it.

I've seen that Lee tank bring some pretty nice prices! I'm glad you were able
to add it to your collection!

When are we going to see a few photos of your office? I can only imagine:D
