I confess, as much as I like the desert campaign (Crusaders that is) it certainly wasn't me. LOL!

Mike

John,

I was going to email you about this and when I saw it was gone thought it might be you. I'm guessing it's Patrick Chollet (pat44rouge). Too bad.

Brad It wasn't me......I was being good:p

I'm still recovering from the vacation.......my medication was off

so I've been in a 3 day funk:eek:

Next thing I know.............GONE!

Well it was nice to see it still out there:D

Why is that piece so high ??

It looks like the others - Andy has come out with.

I helped . . . but I didn't buy it myself (I already have one) - Hans got it!

It's one of the very old ones and very, very rare. When the old LRDG show up on ebay (not very often), it commands high prices.

Here's a quote from the book to explain:

In March 1998 Andy added the resin Long Range Desert Group Chevy 30 cwt. Truck (probably the most beautiful and highly detailed vehicle he ever made for ordinary production) as well as a desert version of the wood Bren Gun carrier and the desert version of the wood Quad Gun & Limber.

The Long Range Desert Group Chevy 30 cwt. Truck, fittingly, was the final regularly produced wood, resin or metal vehicle. Andy saved the best for last. At the Imperial War Museum in London, there is an actual Long Range Desert Group Chevy, recovered from the Libyan desert after 40 years of sand storms had sand-blasted the paint off, leaving a mirror finish. K&C’s model is an incredibly detailed exact duplicate, except for the mirror finish. The K&C truck is depicted in two tone blue on tan camouflage. The Chevy pickup has an open cab, with a tarp strapped to the base of where the windshield would be, and a bren gun mounted on a completely traversing mount in the bed of the pickup. Like the SAS jeeps, accurate details are added such as additional radiator water reservoirs on the fenders sand channels mounted on the outside of the bed. The truck comes with the crew from SAS002. The model, designated SAS003, retailed for $346.

All do to respect but I really don't care about the real old stuff. Doesn't have enough detail for me.

Ron:

You just don't see them offered for sale that often! Its always nice to be

able to ad a "Special Piece" to your collection!

The "Hawk" swoops in again! Great Job Louis! Its nice that it remained

here, and did not have to suffer the indignities of a customs search:eek:

I picked up the SAS01 figure from the seller......but I was asleep at the

switch on this gem!

Nice items, and congratulations to Hans!

This is a piece that Hans needed to complete his collection of the old wood, metal and resin vehicles, which are ever bit as detailed as todays polystone production. This truck, if properly weathered, would be the equal of or superior to anything produced today, including anything from Figarti or Honour Bound.

I know. We can have it chromed! Then it would be prototypical!:):)

Oops:eek: Looping thoughts. M-mmm-m-mmussssst get to the espreeeesssso machinen! Mach schnell!

Its always nice when a piece goes to someone that appreciates it, and will

handle it properly. I have found more then a few items rusting in basements

or roasting in attics. I once bought a rare Lionel Scale set out of barrel full of

old clothes in a basement.......another time I picked up a rare Dinky Avro

Vulcan Bomber at a flea market where it was tossed in a shoe box like a piece

of junk just sitting in the dirt:eek:

I know Hans will enjoy this great item!

Although I think it's a nice piece, especially for when it was made, with all due respect, I just don't think there is really any comparison to the later King & Country version or the Figarti version in terms of detail. The one pictured is from Louis' collection.

Hi Brad,

Thanks for posting these comparative pictures. Based on the pictures, I must agree with your *****sment. The older piece is nice, especially for the time in which it was released, but it does not seem to compare favorably with the detail presented in the later sets. Nevertheless, it would be a great piece to have in one's collection.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I agree with Brad.........since I have one of each of the superior new pieces

I will reluctantly consent to trade even for one of the SAS03 vehicles:D:D

Okay, okay I know its a big sacrifice...... but what the heck:D:D

Any takers.........class, class, anyone?????
