Is there any one else out there that agrees with me on my opinion that; This new naval series is a waste of resources.. Wouldnt' you rather have different WW2 items released?? Or a more interesting conflict such as the Balkans wars of the 1990's??

I agree with you , for me is a good series, specially if you have seen "The Sand Pebbles" movie..sure there were a dozen of conflicts more important or with many more possibilities, but i don't agree with the Yugoslav Wars idea..it's too fresh in our memory, maybe i'd like in the soldiers i collect an halo, that reminds of a past..not so remote (the best part of my collection are WWII) but ..that's it..the Vietnam War could be the most recent conflict of which i'd collect some piece..and talking of Vietnam i'd like a K&C return on the French Epic of Dien Bien Phu..it's not so strange as idea , a CF was just that!

I am interested, only because I am able to build my own gunboat, which would be a good display platform for them..I also believe, that this series will only work, if Andy supports it with maxims, and deckguns and a reasonable priced gunboat. Could these figures work with the Boxer era?.......Michael

The new Naval Series does not interest me at all......but there may be a few folks who like it.......I guess the rest of us will just have to wait our turn.....I'm still waiting for the "winter tiger eastern front" which would definitely sell out quickly........ if it ever appears.......hint hint:rolleyes:

Michael, they probably could pass for Boxer Rebellion-era USN, I don't think the uniforms changed that much from 1900 to the mid-30s. The pics that are posted in another thread (PolarBear's, I think) cover the period. I think the first significant or noticeable changes were in the late 30's, especially in the shape and size of the officer's cover. Also, you couldn't use figures with the tin hat helmets for 1900, because we didn't use them at all, until our involvement in WWI. A landing party would probably have had an officer or CPO in whites, with a cover, and gaiters, and sailors with the white cap.

Someone more expert in the USN uniform of the time can probably give more details and correct me, if I'm wrong.

Prost!

Actually NO.;)

This series is supposed to complement SOHK. Although many here don't collect it, SOHK is one of K & C best selling lines, particularly in Asia. Accordingly, I think it will be a huge seller over there. Before we call something a waste of resources, we need to focus on the whole picture that faces K & C in trying to appeal to the collectors it services, not just our own particular interest.

I agree.Even as a diehard WW2 collector i can appreciate it would be very restrictive on a company if they only made the one product.I also enjoy looking at these other ranges at the shows in London, even if i have no interest in buying them.

I think the new series is great. You could use them for early WW2 and the Shore Patrol has tons of possibilities. Put the Shore Patrol in front of any building or bar:)

I personally will not be collecting the naval series, but I'm sure that others will, "different strokes for different folks" my aunt use to say...Sammy

Although I loved "The Sand Pebbles" , I will not collect the series as a whole. I may pick up a couple of the figures, including Holman with his seabag on his shoulder. -- lancer

I think it's a great looking set and if K&C release the San Pablo further downstream and a collector then adds some of the SOHK figures you would have a real humdinger dio for the office/den. It would certainly interest me as a stand alone diorama and surely a series doesn't have to keep being added to ad infinitum.

All of you WWII disciples, which must account for 80% of the forum membership, are more than well served by Andy and his team and believe me there are literally thousands of toy soldier collectors across the world that are simply not interested one iota in collecting WWII sets. So hats off to him I say for coming up with what I am sure will become a very unique collectors set.

Absolutely. As WW2 collectors we are indeed well served, and i love to see the Redcoats and the Blue and the Grey, variety is after all the spice of life.

Well said mate.

I think that all of you have a part of reason , "The Sand Pebbles" is a great film , if i recall is the one and only in which the great Steve McQueen was nominated for the Oscar, for me deserves a series, but it's a bit lame (the series) , cause i don't really see how these sailors could interact with the HK people..or to be more correct, how the war poses could interact..from an historical point of view there's a gap between the people (some people)of streets of hong kong (if i recall a policeman carries a Martini Henry!) and the sailors (the main problem is with the B.A.R. carrying sailor, the B.A.R. entered service in 1918) of at least 20 years..in short the series needs chinese rebels..!

True if you want them to fight! But the film as you hint at is so well known that anyone would immediately recognise the dio and what it's representing without hostile rebels.
But if it sells well five will get you ten the next release will be the Chinese opponents.

I have to echo other comments made on here to the effect that WWII collectors are already very well served by K&C. I collect Revolutionary War, Napoleonic War, WWI, and now the Yangtse Patrol guys--essentially everything but WWII, as good as the WWII sets look--so it is refreshing to see a non-WWII release every now and then. I mean no offense to WWII collectors, or to that line--those figures are fantastic. But they don't interest me; I prefer the Yangtse Patrol figures. Granted, I am pretty sure I am in the minority, so I doubt this series will last too long, unfortunately. But I will sure as heck buy them up! (one day, when I have money again...)

I agree with TEX. The U.S. Navy figures that are coming out are great. I for one will collect them and the new figures have made me consider collecting some SOHK. (I think that may be a way of getting us (USA) to consider the SOHK figures). Either way, I will buy and have already made my first order for some of the upcoming figures. I look forward to see some of you display some dioramas to give me some ideas. I agree that we need to have some opponents for the sailors. I am one of the few that does not collect WWII but do collect the other periods.

I suspect this may prove to be a nice little sleeper series that a lot of folks will regret not buying when they were "still available." They are really nice looking figures, and it is always nice to see something a little different. I may purchase a few of them eventually. Really like the looks of the shore patrol and Holman with seabag figures in particular.

I have the beginnings of a small SOHK scene, so a couple of these will fit right in. I'm looking at the petty officer and the guy with the seabag as great fits. The shore patrol might also fit in. The guys with the guns, though, won't fit in on that street!
