Masterful construction that remind me of scenes ripped out of the old Van Johnson B&W movie Battleground.

Thanks men

I bought the tank damaged without a barrel. I drilled out where the barrel broke and inserted a straw, which was the perfect diameter. Some say this is not the proper way to show battle damage, but I saw a few pics like this and that was good enough for me.

Thanks for the info Alex and I agree, the destroyed barrel looks real enough for me as well.

The 2nd Armored receiving orders to move out towards Ciney to take on the 2nd SS Panzer Division.

(NOTE) The Panther and figures had some repainting and weathering and are not in their original form.

In light of the topic I brought up concerning figures in dioramas and artistic approach. As of late I study the facial expressions of figures I use in a scene. Here the ones facing the camera I thought were exceptionally well done and had a realistic feel to them, those not facing the camera I didn't like ( This applies to all manufacturers ) yet were needed to convey the message of the scene.

The original picture was much clearer and brighter, which did not appeal to me so I removed a good amount of color. It gives the uniform a more of a cloth like appearance, I also did some weathering and I softened the picture a bit, which seemed to me to make the faces more believable.

I missed on the backdrop hue a bit, which is a bit to warm as opposed to the foreground...Check out the TCS pics I did I think I hit it better..

And I also overlapped the fog into the foreground better.

This is how I push myself.......The day I finally think I get it right ...I will let you know.

Meanwhile I hope my open analysis of my processes, which can become very complex, give those of you who like doing things this way some food for thought.

When the figures look like toys in my photos and many times they do they never see the light of day. ( Thats just my standard )

Your work is brilliant.
Thanks!

In response to a recent Inquiry

I did weather the figures to dull them.

And the Panther is weathered also.

The actual diorama is plaster snow with actual moss from the back yard for shrubbery on a contoured foam base and of course a backdrop.

I will continue to basically do only the "Realistic" approach, because it challenges me in so many ways and literally brings my collection to life while conveying a story or provoking an emotion. TO ME this is the pinnacle of the hobby, as the senses of the viewer are totally stimulated and I am personally pressed to rely on many skills, most of which I have NOT mastered, but this keeps things fresh for me.

Actual

Enhanced

If you missed this in the TCS section this is actual with some figure weathering. The Sherman is untouched.

Diorama set up tip.

Pay attention to the smallest detail, study the faces and posture of the characters and make sure they interact with each other.

I try to remain aware of this and I build my scenes on this premise.

But what made me write this blurb is this. .... Check the expression on the second soldier in the first pic above looking at the dead german, look at the disdain and contempt on his face, doesn't it make him almost real.

As much as I say I pay attention to these things I positioned him to look at the dead body, but I didn't realize that look he had, until I just glanced at the pic again.

That one sent chills up my spine

Happy Modeling
Alex
