I thought the B17 Figarti did for Clive Gande in RAF Coastal Command markings looked fantastic!

The Figarti B-17 is large-scale, too, like 1/32 or 1/30, I think. That is amazing, no model kit was ever done in that scale of that subject. If I had the room to display it, I'd get one.

Maybe the folks at 21st Century will think about putting out a 1/18 scale Flying Fortess now. Wouldn't that make a great display!

King & Country did one several years ago and with their forthcoming Lancaster I can't imagine they wouldn't do another in the future.

But in 1/18th? I'm thinking of 21st Century's line of large-scale aircraft, and picturing the in-flight ceiling diorama. When I was a kid, I had a couple of Monogram B-17s and B-24s hanging from the ceiling, with P-51s and Me-109s fighting it out.

I'd need cathedral ceilings, for these large-scale planes.....

No, 1/30 and even at that, you need a heck of a lot of room. I can't imagine one of these in 1/18.

21st Century has only done a P-38, so far, for any multi-engined subject. I've seen some of their planes repainted and detailed, like a lot of the guys here do WWII armor, and they turn into decent models.

I think they're great for another reason, too, for the same one as the FOV or 21st Century 1/32 armor kits. They're reasonably priced, and so, you could buy one and give it your kids, to help spark their interest. They can play with them, and if they trash them, it's not like it's a lot of money down the tube. You can always sock a second one away, if you want to have one as an investment.

That does look nice. Is it 1/32 or 1/30 scale? Does it have any moving parts?

The props move - the wheels do not and are in fixed down position - which is fine for me.

K&C did several versions. The one depicted is "A Bit-O-Lace". They also did Memphis Belle, Sentimental Journey (the one I have in my collection) and several custom versions for collectors who themselves or a relative had crewed these aircraft. Here is a quote from the book about this practice:

"In addition to its willingness to produce custom models of aircraft, King & Country was also willing to paint custom markings on existing models to reproduce specific aircraft for collectors. In its circa 1995 “Warbird” flyer, K&C discussed these “special orders” as follows:

'In special cases, we accept ‘special orders’. For instance our larger models – the LANCASTER or the B17 FLYING FORT. Over the years we have reproduced, in miniature exact replicas of aircraft flown by our collectors’ fathers, uncles and in one case, mother!'"

I noticed from the official photo from Figarti that the pilot in that plane has his Right hand up with a victory sign - in the plane I just got from Treefrog , my pilot has his left hand giving a thumbs up - are there two versions??

Hi Ron,

Dick Rossi only signed the second version which is the one with the thumbs up, the first P-40 was not signed and made of different material with less detail. My Dad and I only came up with the idea to have Dick sign after visiting the Palm Spring's Air Museum where we took our first P-40 to show.

Thanks for supporting Figarti. FYI, every signed plane we sell, the Rossi's get a royalty. But just to be able to do this historical piece with Dick Rossi was a real honor for us. My Dad really enjoyed his time with Dick, all the stories first hand from a true American hero!

There should have been a booklet along with the plane, in it has a photo of my Dad and Dick Rossi.

Smoke & Mirrors Ron! As far as I know there was just one "signed" edition. However, Figarti did have another P-40 with two figures (one in the cockpit & one running toward the A/C as pictured below) that was released prior to the special edition. Although a very nice kite, the signed edition is much better in every aspect. That being said, I do have both of them & do love them!
