Painted plastics! Post them here! (1 Viewer)

Though nowhere as talented as any of our Forum experts, I also use

Tamaya Acrylic paint, and have found it to be of the highest quality.

I wash them with soap and warm water and remove excess flash which wasn't very much with a hobby knife or sanding stick. Then I use a grey primer and let it dry for a day then start painting.

That is how I always did mine. The Grey is a good base, and I would go light in the creases with the actual color to create shadows. Firebat

I used mainly Tamiya Acrylic paints and some Vallejo paints. Tamiya Khaki drab or desert yellow with buff highlights for jackets and belts and Tamiya earth for trousers. Also some red brown, olive drab and light green.Tamiya paints also match many King & Country figures for touch-ups.Sometimes I use Humbrol enamels on figures. Leadmen
How did you get the black on the borders of straps and that kind of stuff?

I very seldom use black straight for detail work. Too stark. Use a small brush like a 00 or 000 with a little thin mix of brown or a darker shadow color to out line belts and detail. I usually do this last on painting after figure has highlights and shadows. Around or in cuffs above boots, belts, arm cuffs, around jackets and collars, shoelaces, weapons and other equiptment. Slings are made from black electrical tape. Rub off sticky side with turps and cut into stripes. Paint red brown or tan and super glue a loop to front end and then glue other end by rifle butt. Cut strips long enough to let sling droop a little then glue to butt and trim excess tape. Inks work also for outlining but I don't like them. Leadmen

K-V,

Very impressive work! You have some real talent. Thanks for posting the pictures. I am glad I am able to see them!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Thank you.The repaints are easy.It is just a matter of figuring out which parts to leave alone and which should be colored. A lot depends on the sculpts. K&C figures are highly detailed and done in great relief so they are actually easy to repaint. If I can I leave the faces alone, I do making my life easier. The Conte plastics are fairly well detailed but come unpainted. Also having really good paint and brushes are important. My favorite is a red sable 15 /0.Also undercoating or priming, I use a flat black from Games Workshop. If you miss a spot it looks like shadow. I have learned many tips and tricks from a lot of talented people.:) I am getting better at this and I love it!

Nice job on the paint jobs but, I don,t think I would have the guts to repaint K&C figures:p I also realy like the conte plastics they are great to paint because of the great detail. I think they are about the best plastics out there right now. I wish they would do some napoleonics but, even if they did it would take about 10 years before we,d see them even if they said they were going to release them next week!:p They have a keith rocco set listed on there web site of the north gate and another set of napoleonics(METAL SETS) and its been on there forever and I dout it will ever see the light of day!!! They never even posted any pre production sculpts like they do with there other sets that let you know that in about 5-10 years they will be available:p so i,m not holding out munch hope on conte napoleonic sets.

http://www.conteco.com/TheStore/Rocco/Rocco.htm I was asked about the kieth rocco sets so here is the link just scroll to the bottom of the page but don,t hold your breath on these sets i,ve got a feeling there never going to see the light of day:p this has been up on the web site for a long time and nothing more has ever been said or posted about it. I think the conte stuff is pretty good and the plastics are great but they really have to follow up faster on what they post on there web site.

I painted these 1/32 scale Airfix re issue plastic soldiers. I hand carved the bottles out of wood and glued a label on them. I made the road, debris also.

I am about to paint some Conte plastic paratroopers. What should I do to prepare them for painting?

The first thing you should do is take of any extra flashing(mould lines where the figures are joined in the mold. sometimes there is plasic that is extra from the joining process that leaks out)This can be done with a hobby knife or razor blade. Then you want to wash the figures in warm water with dish soap to remove the release agent that stays on the figures that is left over from the moulding process(they use this to keep the plastic from sticking to the mould)this release agent will keep the paint from sticking to the plastic. Then you want to get some kind of under coat or layer under the paint. They now sell plastic primer that you can get in wal mart I would suggest getting some of this in white as your under coat as plastic is very hard to paint and after all the time you spend painting you don,t want all the paint to just fall off a month or two latter. This stuff is specail made to bond to the plastic. Good luck and happy painting.

What colors did you uze for zee Germanz?

Germans are painted with Tamiya German field grey color, dark green, khaki and flat black for belts and boots. I added some winter jackets with hoods using A&B putty to sculpt jackets. Some Airfix 1/32 equiptment added to some figures. Leadmen

Here is a Conte plastic 82nd Airborne trooper. I used Tamiya acrylics and that was awesome paint. Tell me what you think!

They look good from what I can tell but you should try and get more light in the photo next time and we could see the detail a little better.
