Painted plastics! Post them here! (4 Viewers)

Thanks, There are more under Vignettes section on dioramas. I got Susan an artist on treefrog to paint mounted guy , highlander and soldier. That will be part of a F/I war diorama. John

Hockoy, Very good young man !Keep up the good work.I see a master modeler in the making.
John, Love the Barzo troops. You did a splendid job.
I've often thought a Barzo FIW collection all painted up would be killer for Wargames. They are nice castings and you did them honor.

I have not painted a thing, had any games, layouts or displays since July when we had our annual birthday battle.Sorry, nothing new to offer.
Perhaps I'll get a box of the new Armies in Plastic AWI Cannon set and paint that up.

Good work boys!

What the heck does AWI stand for? Oops I get it I was hoping it was a typo for WWI. An arty set for WWI from AIP would have been cool

American War of Independance, and yes a WW1 ary set would be cool.

Talked to Tony at AIP and he stated his next set would be WW1 Russians, not WW1 arty, but anything from him in WW1 is appreciated.

Thanks for sharing the photos. Can I ask whether you seal your figures with a clear coat of anything?

The reason for asking is that I'm after a matt sealer that actually does what it says on the tin, i.e. seals in matt.

Every brand I've tried so far seems to give off a nice satin / semi - gloss or gloss finish, which is a bit of a pain.
Any and all suggestions (of the sealer variety) would be appreciated.

Should I coat my plastic figures after their painted?

I think it depends on what you're planning to do with them. If they're painted up and tucked away for display, then probably not, but if there going to get handled a lot, then I woud suggest an additional layer of clear sealer / protective varnish would help to preserve the paint finish.

That's what I believe, but I'm more than willing to be shot down in flames if anyone can offer any other information.

And, as mentioned previously, I like a matt finish and so far all the supposed matt finishes have been a bit, well, glossy.

Anyway, thanks for the prompt Hockey. I've just looked back at your painted US Paras - nice work. I need to go and dust off some half converted Conte Brit Paras and finish the job.

Cheers

Hockoy, As to coating/sealing the plastics, It's a definate yes at least for me. My advice. Get some Matte clear spray, Krylon is good, satin finish, crystal clear. It will leave them rather glossy.Give them several coats, let dry completely between coats. It will protect them very well.
Now, take some Testors Dullcote and give them a shot or 2 of that.
That will flatten them back out again.I think the Krylon protects better but is a bit glossy. Dullocte cures that problem.

Great pix guys.

I usually use Games Workshop flat black primer. I don't usually seal them unless of course I want them glossy. The sealers will protect the paint from being rubbed off from handling.

I use Games Workshop matte spray to seal them and its very matte.

Alex, FubArrRrRRrrRr....rr,

Thanks for the suggestions, I've not tried these ones yet. I'll break open the piggy bank and go dull / matt shopping tomorrow.

Vamps,

I'm going to have to try the black primer route. I tend to usually go for a grey primer first, as it seems, well, somehow 'safer'. That said, I've seen some fantastic paint jobs with black as the primary coat.

Cheers

The black works well. If you miss something you have the added benefit of it looking like a shadow. Helps with underlining too.;)
