Since this board is open to the general public I will keep the language respectfull!
A guy won an ebay item for around $50 on 7-5. I shipped it with delivery confirmation.
Two days ago I received an email from him asking if I shipped it. I replied I did gave him the shipping #. I also checked the number with the post office which said they attempted to deliver on 7-9, however no one there, they left a note stateing it could be picked up at the post office indicated on the note within 15 days are it would be shipped back to me.
I also informed the buyer of this.
Today I received another email from the buyer stateing the tracking number was wrong because it started with 0 and that he had been to the post office and they did not have it.
I again checked my number and again the above info showed up. Now here is the part that infuriates me. I contacted paypal and advised them of the situation trying to head this off at the pass, but in a few words paypal said if he files a dispute, because it was not physically delivered to him I am liable to refund him the entire amount.
Paypal addmitted I had done everything right but the buyer still gets his money back.
Does a seller have any rights at all?
Anyone else have a similar problem?

Gary, that sucks, was it a buyer in the States or another country?

I would ask to speak to a supervisor. If you have a tracking number you are covered. I had a similar situation. The tracking number showed that his package was sitting in his local post office after they attempted delivery. He actually called me up after filing a dispute with PayPal and asked what do I do. I advised him to go get his package at the post office before it was send back to me !! He said he never had thought of that, and got the package. At least he closed the dispute.

That's an ugly story...

I would email him your correspondence from the post office detailing that the package is waiting on him to pick it up...

if it gets returned to you...you're out the postage fees...

not to mention the sale...

sounds like your guy is lazy, stupid or just doesn't want it...

Paypal is little help on this...it's out of their realm of responsibility...they can't charge him if he doesn't get the parcel...

is it out of country or can you call him and explain...

I know you're frustrated...

that's an ugly story...

And no way to let other sellers know as negative feedback for buyers is no longer an option with EBay.

The guy lives in an apartment complex in Hialeah, Fl. That explains not leaving the parcel at his door. I tried looking up a phone number but to no avail. Anyone know of a better way to find a number.
Funny thing the only other time I had to refund a "non arrival of a package" was at another apartment complex in Fl. With that I had no delivery confirmation so I chalked it up as a learning experiance, hence the confirmation with this. And yet I,m still s--- out of luck!

 I just posted a parcel to an apartment in Brazil, I hope it gets there :(

I reckon I will have to limit my sales to North America and the UK from now on as at least most buyers there speak English........kinda ;)

Cheers Gary:

Sorry about the SNAFU. Here is a little help from the Southwest Sector....First off, always pay the extra $$$ and insure the item as it covers your six! I have had no problems at all filing an online USPS claim especially when it involves an eBay transaction since you can include the link to the actual listing. As for the contact logistics, please refer to the link below as it should provide you everything you need once you fill in the respective information. What else, call USPS with your dilemma and let them investigate as well. You could also get the local Post Office number and call them directly. If you need any more clarification or help, please ask.

Not that anyone really cares but thanks to Beaufighters giving me various contact sites I was able to call this guy and relay the info. I also was able to call the Florida post offices and track the parcel down to a particular post office.
Got a positive feedback from this guy and checked my confirmation and it showed delivered.
Hope this guy is not a member of this board but I think the problem is that he is not the smartest kid in school!!
Gary

Gary, glad you got it worked out. See, I care :D

See you in Chicago.

That turned into a big hassle Gary...I would probably block this guy from future transactions...
