Photobucket Issues (1 Viewer)

Just found this thread . . . . . I received the PB notice this past Thursday after years of using their service . . . . . All of my photos that I have uploaded from PB to TF have been blocked and can no longer be viewed. Looking for alternative . . . . Will probably upload my photos to TF directly from my computer after re-sizing them. I am also aware the WWII Buff (Duke) has had his photos blocked as well as Larry Allen.
:smile2: Mike

Guys, Aware that something funny would come up with Photobucket, I never really relied on them, I always upload directly to the Forum...
Cheers

Gents'
As an update, I contacted PB and yelled and shouted that I had just paid them money to stop ads. I said, "you took my money then the next day you tell me you are going to block me." ...:mad:

They agreed to give me 90 days then I get torpedoed and sent to the bottom ....

Gunboat diplomacy never works Larry :)

Seriously though well done for putting a bat up their virtual nightdress. They deserve a full volley.

I thought it might help to describe the difference between "3rd party hosting" and "linking", as Photobucket defines the terms. But after reading some FAQ items, it's not really any clearer than before.

From their website, here is their definition of "3rd party hosting":

"What Is 3rd Party Hosting?
Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website.

For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting."

And this is their definition of "linking":

"What Is Linking?
When we use the term 'linking', we are referring to use of an image link from your account. More specifically, the action of sharing or posting only the link (not image) on a 3rd party website that redirects back to Photobucket when clicked.

An example of linking is sharing the link to your image with friends to view on Photobucket.

What is 3rd party hosting? Learn more."

I wasn't aware of the difference, before I read those FAQ items. I would have described "linking images" by merging both of those descriptions. I'm still puzzled, though, because I do embed images, as PB describes it, using the image-tagged links generated at Photobucket, so I'm not sure why I haven't received the email. I have the Plus 50 account, which by their own definition, is not one that includes 3rd party hosting: the Plus 500 account is the only one that does:

What Subscription Do I Need For 3rd Party Hosting?
The Plus 500 subscription is the only current option for off-site photo hosting at this time. Our 3rd party hosting requirements can be found in our Terms of Use.

To upgrade to a Plus 500account, click here.

Larry, I'm not sure what you mean by the word "block." Are you referring to having access to your photos or being able to view your photos on Treefrog. If the former, you can still access your photos; they are not blocked. You just can't use them for third part hosting.

When I logged unto PB it told me that:

NOTICE: Your Library is not accessible under your current membership option.
Please see Photobucket's option plans, available at this link: <gave link>
To speak to a service representative call this number:

I told the rep what had happened. They sent me an email telling me I had 90 days to sink or swim with the sharks.

They are maddingly inconsistent as I'm able to access my photos.

I agree, Brad. I still don't understand why I haven't gotten the email, because as far as I can tell, I embed images, and my PB account doesn't support it. Unless they're going through customers in batches.

The Fox article really doesn't have any more info than we've already gleaned on our own, from the email and from info at PB's site.

Prost!

I wonder if they are starting with the newbies and working backwards? I only started to use PB a couple of years ago with any consistency.

I've had zero issues with my Paypal account, haven't received any sort of notice; again, must be because I pay to upload my pictures, I don't use their "free" service.

You get nothing in life for free.

This is a test of my resizing photos.
Is this as clear as the &^%# Photobucket shots?

There have been some requests for the mods to go back and edit old posts, inserting new photo links. After talking it over, we realize that would open Pandora's box...how many posts would we change...who would we change them for...how far back would we go...

Unfortunately, re-posting the images is really the only way forward. It could take countless hours for the mods to make the edits. I don't think they have that kind of time on their hands {sm4}

Afternoon Pete,
I understand the complexity of the request. In my case, should I lose all the photos from where I stopped using PB, I would NOT expect the Moderators to do the work, I would do it myself; a little at a time, working backwards.

YES that would be a lot of work, but ....:rolleyes2:

In the case of people like Larry, Mike Estell and Duke, I'm wondering if it's possible to give them limited permission to make the changes. It's entirely conceivable that the software does not allow for this unless you made them moderators, which admittedly is not possible.

How feasible would it be to start a pre photobucket gouging section? When each member sorts out their hosting issues they could start a thread with links to their saved pictures or albums. They wouldn't be in the original posts, but they would still be accessible to interested members.
