...two Romans are dispatched to find water while on expedition, which they do. But they also encounter something completely different...something they have never seen before. They have stirred up quite a hornet's nest, as they come face to face with a Pict Queen! No time for words!

First sighting....

I'm really enjoying my first two FL Romans and thought I'd share a few pics. I think the FL Romans and Russian barbarians compliment each other very nicely.

Hello Joe,
Very, very original and creative.
Congratulations and thank you for sharing.
A color display would be nice too.
Guy.

Great work Joe, splendid scene and very nice figures.{bravo}}

Rob

I quite like the effect the black and white photos give.^&cool The figures mix very well.

Jeff

I agree with Jeff, the B&W photos add interest and drama to your scene. Nicely done . . .

Very creative. I like the use of black and white in this series.

Joe,

I echo what everyone else has said: creative and nicely done.

My goodness! You guys are too kind! But thank you so much. Wow, I really appreciate all of your kind words Mike (mikemiller1995), Guy, Rob, Jeff, Mike (mestell), Frank, Rick, and Brad.

I had some time on my hands Friday night, and had this idea, and low and behold, 80+ pics later (literally) I got a few that I really liked! Thanks again everybody. I'm so glad you enjoyed the pics and the story they portray. I had a lot of fun setting it up and trying to get the pics to capture what I envisioned.

I most often use black and white because not only do I find it more dramatic, like Jeff said, but I find b/w much more forgiving too! But I will set this up again and re-shoot in color per Guy's request. I will try and do it tomorrow morning before the game. I should note that the rock formation/ water scenic is by JG (# JGS18). The shrubs I placed around the dio and on the figure bases are just dry moss torn off in clumps. I left the FL bases visible in the second shot because I thought they mixed in with the environment better than the Russian style bases. Thanks again for all the words of encouragement. :) Joe

Hello Joe,
Thank you to meet my request color photos.
The "actors" are beautiful figurines.
This is a beautiful little scenario: the attack of the barbarians will be "fierce" on these two Roman!
We guess almost "shock" of the battle ahead!
Again, congratulations and thank you.
Guy.

You are very welcome Guy, and thank you for your kind words. You will bring this little scene to life with your description of fierce battle shock!
Such a wonderful hobby-

Best,

Hi Gebhard,

Thank you for the welcoming me to the addiction frenzy, and thank you for the compliments on the scene. I was thinking of putting my money on the Picts as well. With the Queen present, you would think her bodyguards would fight with the ferocity of ten men a piece.
But then again, with the Romans being so good at countering the enemy's rage with their skill and discipline, perhaps they could fend them off. Plus the Romans seem to have found the higher ground, which I've read they often sought out for many advantages, one being to extinguish the height disadvantage they often faced against various European tribes.
In the end though, I think these two Romans are far more used to systematically fighting with the Legion, and the barbarian charge will be too much to overcome. If the Romans fall, I guess that just means I have to buy a few more to replace them! And so the addiction begins:wink2:....

Best,
Joe

Hi Mark,

Thank you so much. The Pict Queen is very special to me too:). I posted pics of her awhile back, because I had been searching for her for some time before finally tracking her down. She came from a Russian Studio named Rogatchev.
The figure with the metal helmet who is kneeling and thrusting forward with spear and shield is from a Russian studio named West. The hard charging figure with the knit cap, tons of tattoos (even on his face!), and curved sword is an early Aeroart figure from back when they were affiliated with Arsenyev Studio. Glad you enjoyed the series!

Best,
Joe

Mark,

If FL decides to make ancient Britons in the future (fingers crossed big time), maybe we'll get lucky and they'll produce Boudicca and maybe even other female warriors. (TSSD has a female archer among their impressive plastic barbarian horde.)
Could you imagine if FL made a Celtic chariot with Boudicca on board?!?!{eek3} That would INCREDIBLE! I actually saw such a thing in glossy finish a few years back by Tommy Atkins. I'm guessing if FL produced something like this, I think it could potentially be a big, big hit. Really exciting times for the hobby these days....
