Poilus...battered and bruised... (1 Viewer)

when I chose the title for this thread...

"Poilus...battered and bruised"...

these were the figures I had in mind...

I had spoken to John a while back and asked what the theme was of this series...

and he said it was to represent a group of French soldiers returning from a battle with casualties...

they are very compatible with the JJD and K&C figures in scale...painting and color...

Great pics of some great figures.I don't know what it is about the French but in any range they seem to be popular.

I'm going to back away from this statement right now...

putting them side by side and taking a picture...

they are not very close at all...

K&C's are much bigger...and have paler coat colors...

Of the two characteristics being discussed, color and size, the color is the one that is least of a problem. The horizon blue of the French Army uniform came in many different shades from a very pale to a very deep. The colors were also heavily affected by time in the field. Uniforms of all different shades could be found within the same units, and, in fact, on the same person as different uniform items could have been issued from different batches at different times. All the manufacturers that issue figures in the horizon blue, KC, JJD, TCM, FL, make the horizon blues in accurate shades, even if different from one another. The size factor is another problem entirely. I have all 4 manufacturers in my collection and have found that KC and TGM go together very well, while FL and JJD can be displayed together. Size difference makes displaying KC and TGM with the other two a bit awkward looking. Of course, styles differ so what goes together is a matter of personal preference along the lines of how a figure is sculpted or painted. -- Al

Al...

I agree with almost everything you just said...

and while I can't speak on the First Legion French...

I will respectfully disagree...

I think the TG and JJD are almost identical...

a very close match in size...

now I only own one set of the TG...

which is the pigeon handler set...

but they seem pretty close to me...

Michael, it must be Murphy's Law because you are comparing one of the TGM Poilu sets that I do not own, so they may well match up with JJD. I was comparing some earlier TGM Poilus (combat poses) that I own that match KC perfectly in size but are larger than the JJD figures. Perfectly possible that some of the TGM Poilus differ in size from issue to issue. At any rate, I ended up not mixing the types because of size and the very real difference in the combat vs non-combat poses. -- Al

Al...

you're probably right...

perhaps the fighting poses are a little different in scale...

the pigeon set is the only one I bought from TG...

I have 2 sets coming...

Raoul Lubery (GW051B) and the French sentry (GW052)...

perhaps the scale will be different on them...

by the way...

I think John is making a pigeon handling set in the Poilus...

That's outstanding news. I could certainly use a French pigeon handling team. After all, the last pigeon sent by Col. Raynal out of Ft. Vaux was awarded the Croix de Guerre. :wink2: -- Al

a couple of new additions to my Poilus...

a JJD stretcher set...

Raoul Lufbery...American fighter Ace...in the chair and a French sentry...

Lufbery served in both the American Air Service and French Air Force...

all but one of his 17 combat victories came while flying in French units.
