This has been discussed a lot, so maybe a poll would be interesting.

My vote- Original Trophy. Half of the fun is finding the sets, that said, I want the original Len Taylor produced goodies. As I have stated, there is just something special about them and I have not met one I didn't like or want to have in my collection. I could be persuaded to buy a remake depending on what it is and the price, but that is a big IF and I vote for the originals!

For me I would like some remakes as long as they were upto the previous Trophy Standard.

The prices for originals are just utter lunancy and many just cannot get on the ladder.

I know this isn't going to happen but I wouldn't mind seeing some castings being released for those who would like to paint their own. There appears to be much more detail on the figures which could be picked out.

So I voted for New.

I, too, love the old Trophy's and still have many of my AZW figures. On the other hand, I cannot even think about buying secondary market figures with the insane prices that are being paid. Well done, glossy remakes, would be a good option. -- Al

For the pieces I would be interested in, I don't think there would be a price difference (a new production Nile River Gun Boat, Dhow, or WWI Truck would in all likelihood be as expensive as the old ones) so I would prefer the originals.

You would be better off settling for the new Little Legion versions of the boats or tracking down the originals on the secondary market.
I would like to see redos of standard firing lines. Sudan, Zulu and Napoleonic. I am sure those would sell.

Good point, if you want well done glossy, look no further than Little Legion.

Guys, take the poll without regard to price. I say that because TRUST ME, if they are reproduced, they will be sold at high prices. This is my opinion and my opinion only, but I would bet on it.

I am very lucky to have the bulk of the Equipment sets for the campaigns I collect but I would buy reproduced standard firing lines for the Sudan in multiple sets:wink2:

Cheers

Martyn:)

I have cast my vote for Trophy of Wales.....the original.

Raymond.:smile2:

I agree with Tom: a part of fun is chasing rare sets, talking with fellow collectors and learning more on the wonderful subject of Trophys of Wales :smile2:... so my vote is pretty obvious.

Does this have to do with Maison Militaire/Ken Jackson continuing with the Trophy lines? If so, to me it would be a matter of wait and see, although my boat is now sailing elsewhere^&grin...

I realise it's only your opinion but I wonder why you think they would be expensive. Take a look at the prices of the Hertage range for instance, I don't think they'er expensive at all.

Be happy to. Based on what price I was given for some older Trophy sets, I might as well have bid on ebay.

I looked at the Heritage range once, when I saw it was matte, that was the end of my look, so I have no idea on the price.

Point is, if the remakes are even near in price to the originals, then to me it is a no brainer. I will bid on the originals. I only have to point to a simlar instance. RP World Models who now has Steadfast. They do a fine job, BUT, if I compare my original Steadfast (in all iterations, Andrew Rose, Borbour, etc), I still like the originals best. RP does a decent job, but its not the same IMO. Price is comparable, I try at all possible to buy the originals.

In a way, I would like to see Trophy stay retired. Sometimes perfection (IMO) is best left alone.

There's not a lot of incentive to reproduce the figures then! I just wonder one more thing though, when you say "original" which "original" do you mean? Is it just that in your opinion if Len Taylor is not involved, they will never reach a certain standard? As can be seen in another thread here the original Trophy had varied finishes!
Again though can I state that I ask these questions for my own interest. I'm not Ken Jackson in "disguise" and I'm not trying to do market research. If I know anything about Trophy it's because I ask.

Len Taylor and all of Trophy's variations over the time he owned the Company are what I collect and what I want to collect. That is the standard for me. Len may have varied his sets, but it was his variations and growth. Again, I like originals and if I am going to pay, that is what I am going to pay for.

Tom: I totally agree with your comments. It is difficult to be objective about Len and Trophy since I know him personally. I also feel the same about Bill Hocker and his fine figures.

Tom: As an afterthought, ATS goes very well with Trophy.

Hopefully, the new issues would be marked as such.
