There is an FL Prussian Standard Bearer that just went up on eBay with a starting bid of $600. I thought this price was a bit extreme even for a rare figure like this. However, it is one of only a handful of retired Naps which I still need and this is the only one I've seen for sale in the past 18 months. For those who've followed this market for longer, would buying this be crazy or should I not miss this opportunity?

It's pretty darn pricey....

That being said - I have all flag bearers but am missing NAP 0012....and would surely pay a decent premium for one

In my opinion, the price is absurd. Now, if he asked $200, that would be high but not outrageous.

When I saw the listing, I wondered if it was an error. If you're interested in the item, why not write him and ask if it was an error and, if not, ask him if he'd accept a lesser amount.

Looks that the guy is reading forum and knows how much you miss it Brad.

I think we should not look at the asking price so much, as we should ask, how did the auction come out? Did someone buy the figure, or did the auction end without a sale?

Prost!

It still has four days to go Brad and no bids do far. Of course, if I were bidding, I'd wait until the last 10 seconds.

That there are no bids tells me that everyone who has seen the auction so far is canny enough to know that it's too high an asking price. I'm curious to know if the auction ends without a bid.

Yeah, I like to wait to the last seconds, too. But sometimes I mess up and forget to get back online in time. I lost out that way on an Imrie-Risley Rogers Ranger kit last Sunday. The seller wanted ten bucks, which is a good price. I missed it, he relisted it, but at thirty bucks as Buy it Now! or on offer. I offered him ten bucks, but he rejected it.

Prost!

I agree with the sentiment that the Prussian Standard Bearer is nowhere near worth $600 and I personally wouldn't pay more than $200 if I collected First Legion Prussians. My other concern is that First Legion figures are fragile. Buying them secondhand is fraught with risk because bayonets, swords, tails, plumes can all break very easily so I make it a rule to only buy new from dealers or on ebay from trusted sellers. I bought Poniatowski brand new and his plume snapped off the first time I removed it from the box! I have yet to get it repaired properly but that is my story.

Too many variables and with $600 on the line, both the seller and buyer are taking a lot of risk. Not worth it.

You need to be very careful when unpacking a first legion product.

Everything is very well tightly inside the box, so you need to take your time and remove all the small bits of foam put between arms, legs, head, etc..

You just need to take your time.

Most of the time , i remove figures from the back of the box and not the way you would normally remove it when you open the box.

They are times i would like First Legion put less foaming stuff inside their box, because they are very well protected against most hits they could take.

I didnt had one broken figure.

Serge. :)

What works best is do not take the small pieces of foam out of the box but let the entire assemblage of figure and foam slide out of the box, then separate the foam the figure not the figure from the foam.

The way I do it with FL and Thomas Gunn figures... Plus I have sliced up the foam with a razor to free it up more. In some, especially if it has a bayonet..

I saw that one too. I have it already but regardless I would not pay that price. You can get the kit from FL http://www.firstlegionltd.com/FL54010.aspx for $30 and commission the painting for a fraction of that $600 if you really want it. The flag is the challenging part IMHO but doable. I just snatched on Ebay FL NAP0090 BRITISH GUARD GRENADIER CAPTAIN I was missing and looking for a good while. Patience is everything in this hobby...:wink2:

Well, it didn't sell, fortunately; had it sold it would have become a bridge too far for collectors.

Ole Josh has relisted it at $600. Hope does spring eternal :rolleyes2:
