News From Trophy of Texas - 2009
August 6th 2009 Announcement:

" I would like to take time to let everyone know that while our regular stock of Trophy sets is getting smaller, we still have a LOT of Trophy left to sell, we probably still have in excess of $40,000.00 retail-worth of new Trophy inventory. Not as much from some era's, more from other era's, just sort of depends on where your interest are. No remaining stock from the Crimean era or the Boxer Rebellion but at least a little from most of the other parts of the Trophy Miniatures catalog. Right now I would expect our stock-levels to remain high enough to continue to sell to the public and maintain this website until at least the end of 2010...after that, who knows, we may end up just selling collections for some of our past Trophy customers. "

Thanks for the heads up Raymond but I asked the question about Egypt and The Sudan and got an email back tonight stating "Nothing left":(

Hi Martyn,

I took your advice from a previous post.

Unfortunately, there was no reply to my last email message.

Cheers, Raymond.

:(

He does say he has 40 000 USD worth of stock.
No Boxer, Zulu or Sudan.
I would think he has some Napoleonic stuff but cannot be sure.

On the bottom of two of my Trophy figures there is a mark that looks like a "D". Are these figures Trophy?

Hi Brian

Does it look like this?

If so it is Dragon Crest which was a part of Trophy

Hi Martyn, thank you for the quick response.

Yes the marks are the same.

What was the reason for Trophy change to Dragon Crest?

Good question Brian;), I believe that the two Companies ran side by side for a time and at the end of the 1990's Dragon Crest figures were produced in a matte finish though I am not completely sure about the reason for the two names. Leave it with me and, unless someone comes up with the answer, I will see what I can find out next time I am at MKL

Hi Martyn and Brian,

The little that I know of the Dragon Crest Series comes from a Dragon Crest flyer issued circa 1998.

In the 1980's, Trophy has some trainee figure makers. This batch of trainess had their own unique style of finishing figures and these figures emerged slightly different from the standard Trophy figures.

Therefore, it was decided to market these figures made by the trainees under a new name of "Dragon Crest" to preserve the identity of Trophy.

Whatever became of this batch of trainess, I do not know. The Dragon Crest brand was discontinued.

Sometime later, the Dragon Crest name was re-introduced to cover some retired Trophy sets that were remade as a result of popular demand. I think many of the retired sets of the Egypt/Sudan Campaigns were remade under the Dragon Crest name.

The standard and quality set by Trophy was to be maintained in the Dragon Crest Productions.

Martyn, perhaps Lyn Kenwood of MKL will know more.

I am not sure whether the Dragon Crest Figures were either in gloss or matte paint finish.

However, I have 2 Sudan War sets by Dragon Crest and the figures are in gloss.

Cheers, Raymond.

If I'm not mistaken and I've been known to more than once I beleive Ken Jackson of Maison Militaire was also involved in producing the Dragon Crest Sudan Series back then and wondering if Mike Norris was one of trainees back who worked on creating some of the figures ...........The Lt.

You might be right Joe, I read somewhere that Ken Jackson of Maison Militaire had an agreement with Trophy that they would supply him with castings to produce a range of Matt only painted figures, and so not to confuse them with the Trophy figures the range was called Dragon Crest.

Those replies kick started the old "grey matter". Here is a flyer I had in an old price list from 1998

Thank you for the information, I knew the answer was here. Each one of you knew a little piece of the answer. An excellent Trophy team, if I do say so myself.

Another question,

Why is there a difference in Trophy bases, I have some that are square and others are oval that have a grass and dirt design? Can figures have both type of bases or are they mutually exculsive?

Hi Brian

The square bases are the earlier ones, the first set I bought with the oval base was ZS53 24th SHIRT SLEEVE ORDER around 1996. Many, not all, of the sets from around that time then started to appear with the oval bases. The detailing of the figures appears to have changed around that time also.

The Hopital building from the Trophy Hospital set is for sale on EBAY.

Why would someone breakup sets such as these?:(

I know there are many reasons, I just find it sad when large and special sets are broken up and sold piecemeal.

Brian,

I like the Little Legion Hospital that you have. It has a special character of its own.

As for the Trophy Hospital facade, I guess someone may go for it as either an add-on or replacement.

Raymond.:)
