Pure Nostalgia (2 Viewers)

I actually found part 2 of the fuzzy wuzzy article. Part 1 was given in the #126 posting. Enjoy!

Here is a two part article on the Napoleonic Irish Legion by Guy Dempsey who has published a couple of good Napoleonic books on uniforms.

This is one of my favourite modelling articles. Mil Modeler was a US modelling mag. The paper use was very thin and the colours of the photos were not brilliant. However, this was a stunning diorama for me - an evocation of a Norman Rockwell painting. Perhaps the standard of modelling has been surpassed but the sheer joy of perusing this article is what I hope to share with you.

Here is a very attractive WWII diorama. I like it because it is a 1/32 conversion and very nicely displayed.

A very well-made early medieval diorama, but making a hauberk from tiny rings beggars belief!

A very attractive Napoleonic model made from Historex parts with a nice historical summary. I really liked those earlier Mil Mod mag articles then.

Hi All,

Here's another Almark oldie. It's actually quite useful as an overall summary of German uniforms of WWI. See these two cartoon spreads which give very good visual information.

Just finished reading Jim Mesko's Vietnam Ground War Vol 1. The text is surprisingly very accessible. It places complex Vietnamese names of sites in proper context. It also has nice illustrations and photos which cover the first part of the Vietnam war - The French involvement.

Hello Major Bugsen,

Glad you liked these. Sure, there's more Nap articles - I'll just have to trawl through my files.

Here are two books on the Indian Army. The first is an Almark book by AH Bowling. I found this book particularly useful in conveying the full panoply of Indian Army Cavalry regiments. I made the schematics more useful by grouping the drawings into units, following the captions. There are hundreds of illustrations in colour and b/w in this booklet!

This other book is an in-depth look at Skinner's Horse by Chris Rothero. Again, an amazingly well-illustrated booklet with lots of drawings. Due to the strange book size, the double spread pages are cut off in the photoscans. But they are excellent. I'll be thinking of doing some Indian Army conversions over Xmas...

Merry Xmas to all!

Hi All,

Over the Xmas hols, I was rummaging thru my books and came across these two Blandford oldies. P Kannik's book was one of my treasured ref in those early days with over 500 uniforms illustrations! As can be seen, the cover is pretty dog-eared and the book provided the inspiration for some of my earliest figure conversions. The other book is on the American Civil War by P Haythornthwaite and Mike Chappell. This served as a reference for my early ACW figure conversions.

Thanks for continuing to share these old treasures. They bring back so many memories.
I had quite a lot of these books but got rid of most of them in house moves over the last 40 years or so.
