To start I know I will probably be Getting some fellow Forum Members Mad. But, I have to say something about it.
I have stayed away from ebay for about 3-4 months. Just because of two sellers that annoyed me. They wanted a positive feedback for items that I got from them. To me a positive feedback, is when a seller has done A good job. When a seller ships it fast (ships it within 3 days), the packaging has been done with care (bubble wrap, or popcorn. Not crumpled Newspaper), I was given a positive feedback, before I gave one (non of this well I will not give you one, Until I am sure you will give me one), Or has done more than what was promissed in what they said in the auction..
I.E One of the sellers wanted payment within 3 days, But, said that it may take up to 2 weeks to ship it (it took 10 days, for a priority mail)( if you want payment within 3 days, then you should be able to ship it within that time too, heck I will give them an extra day to get it shipped.).
When they just do, what was said in the auction. Then at the best a neutral feedback, should be given. a positive feedback is reserved to sellers that impresses, by going an extra mile. Not Ones that Just do what they said.

I dunno, you have some good points here, but you lost me at the end. I am happy when I buy something that is as advertised, delivered timely and in good shape for reasonable shipping charge. I understand it is not free to ship. To me, that is a positive. This extra mile theory while nice, is not realistic nor expected every time. When you buy something, you get what you pay for, nothing more, nothing less.

No offense, but it is buyers with your last statement attitude, that has soured me about selling on Ebay...If I do as I promised, then that deserves a mandatory, positive feedback. Kissing the buyer's butt beyond that is a bonus to them, but gets me nothing with Ebay's new rules. As long as a sellers rules are clearly stated and you still buy from them, you have no good reason to ding them. Fair is fair....Michael

I'm curious...

if doing "as promised" only at best warrants a "nuetral feedback" from you...

what do your sellers have to do to get a "positive feedback"?

what do you consider the "extra mile" that gets them a "positive feedback"?

I would really like to know what they need to do?

The service you want you should buy from a shop ;)
I sell stuff I don't want any more on ebay but finding there ebay fee to high now :(
 
Some people live in "rural" areas...and are not close to their shipping agents...

some people ship a lot of stuff and may go the their postal service only once a week...

if the guy said it may take up to two weeks...and he got it there in only 10 days...did he get a "positive feedback" from you for getting it there before advertised?

I would hate to get a neutral or negative feedback for getting something delivered to a customer earlier than promised...

I have bought bubble wrap...peanuts...and boxes...

I have shipped and received boxes with newspapers (crumbled) in the past...it's very effective if done right...not inferior in my opinion...not as classy...but not inferior either...in my opinion...

everybody is trying to ship as cheap as possible to keep costs down...

I sold an item a while back on Ebay with a flat rate of $25.00 worldwide...it also had a flat rate of $10.00 in the lower 48 states on the ad...

he lived in Cananda...

being considered as out of the lower 48...his Paypal invoice was billed at $25.00 postage...

after I got the actual postage on it...which was much lower that $25.00...but before I shipped it to him...I enclosed a personal check for the difference...

after he received it...along with my personal check...he told me thank you...but said he would not cash the personal check because after the exchange...it would be an insignificant amount to him...while a full face value to me...

I told him thank you and if he ever bought from me again...I would credit his next purchase...

USPS is funny...I always ship with comfirmation...I think it's 70 cents...

I had a customer in Greece...he bought a 3 piece set of JJ's BM's from me...after I boxed it...I took it to UPS/Fedex...they wanted $141.00 to ship it...I told the clerk he was mistaken...I said that can't be right...the manager came over and looked at the computer screen and said $141.00 was correct...I went to the USPS and sent the exact same box USPS First Class Mail Int'l Parcel for $16.00...

when I sell...I ship the next day...I want the buyer to be impressed...I want repeat business...

when I buy...I'm unrealistically looking at my porch the next day...

USPS Priority is very fast...but it increases in cost to the size of the box...the smallest box they offer...may hold a small K&C single set...the more you learn about shipping...the more economical you can make it...

I don't think I would ever give someone a negative or a neutral unless the terms or service on his end changed...weekends are lost days too except with USPS...

You know you're right...their fees are brutal...

I'm not a "power seller"...
I think I pay 8.74% to Ebay on my sales....
roughly 10% goes to Ebay...
they are strong...
there's a listing fee too...

Paypal want another almost 3%...

between gas and packing...shipping gets strong...:eek:

if shipping is in the $10.00 range from US to US...I'm elated...

i keep all my boxes & bubble rap from stuff I buy as I know ebay buyers like just to pay postage cost but ebay high fee I'm thinking of selling all my books & stuff at a toy fair & sell it all in one go

Never moaned about the shipping. BUT If, You expect the buyer to pay In a set time frame. Shouldn't the buyer have the same courtesy, Of it to be shipped at the same time frame??, If you expected to be paid within 3 days, Shouldn't it be expected to be shipped within 3 days? or is the sellers time more valuable in your opinion.

A little effort, should I be glad that a 90 dollar purchase, is protected by crumpled Newspaper??, Should I be glad that I paid within the alloted time frame. But give the seller a lot more time?? In the case I mentioned TEN DAYS!! And give him a positive feedback?? that is ludicrous.

And another thing, Why Does some sellers wait until, I give them a positive feedback. If they ever did. It would warrant a little nudge into me giving them a positive feedback.

Yep, life is too short. the faster things are done. the less stress it is for both, And Are you saying that I should be excited that something comes to me in a good/ not necessarily great condition??. should I not expect a good condition to be normal?

True , I like to be paid the same day & then post next day job done ;)but If I buy of ebay as long as I get the item & it as describe then they get good feedback :D

we all have our opinions, but I think you are being a tad unreasonable and generalizing to all sellers on ebay. Sounds like you didn't particularly have a great experience, maybe its not for you? I will try to be very honest and respectful at the same time, if I had a customer like you, I would not be very happy if your opionions were portrayed this way. You are coming across as confrontational before there is a need to be, do you feel this way about dealers?

As for shipping/packaging, newspaper is quite fine, it protects sometimes better than bubble and peanuts depending on how the item is packed.

Again, as others said, life is too short, don't cause yourself the unnecessary agitation. If a seller delivers as they have promised, in the condition they promise, then they deserve positive feedback and the buyer should be happy.

I think you have to understand that the seller dictates the terms...

if he says it take "x" amount of days to ship it...then those are his terms...

if he expects payment in 7 days and can only ship in 10 days...then those are his terms...

if you accept his terms and purchase from him...and if he adheres to his terms...he has fulfilled his agreement perfectly...

you said he gets a negative or neutral feedback from you unless he goes the extra mile...what does he have to do to get a positive feedback from you other than meet his promised terms...
