Question about new King Tiger and Char B1 bis (1 Viewer)

In future I feel it would be better for all concerned if the DEALERS did NOT quote the actual numbers of 'limited' items to be produced in an issue until K & C have FINALISED requirements.

Because K&C cannot prevent dealers from orally telling their v. good customers about proposed production numbers, we could get two classes of collectors, those who know something could be "limited" in production and pre-order it immediately, and those who do not and possibly miss out. In future dealer dispatches, I would suggest language like: "planned production run is xxx number, which is subject to change." This does not mislead anyone, and provides collectors with a rough idea of how many sets are being planned.:)

Steven,

That's a great suggestion and would work with issues whose number is to be low in number but is not a limited item unlike a Strictly Limited item, like a Winter Tiger or a Stug. It's unfortunate that we have to be worried about these things but improving communication will avoid problems in the future as King and Country continues to grow.

My 2 cents,
I have cancelled my pre-order as well because the new numbers will ensure plenty of product on the market for some time. Both the KT and the Char are readily available on the market now and adding up to 1000 units takes the edge off the need to rush. I love the product and will not stop buying, thats for sure, but to be honest, these people that say numbers mean nothing, well i just have trouble understanding it. Lets face it, scarcity drives this market, Isn't that part of what collectables is about? If there were 50.000 of each of these they would not be the collectables they are, they would be door stops!
How would all the people who snatched up the recent Napoleonic limited figs. have felt if those numbers were not announced and they missed out?
I want clarity on numbers, just for my own interest, I like and enjoy that my collectables increase in value but I don't consider them an investment per say.
One thing I do know, the competition is on the doos step and Honor Bound and even the former British Commando are going to offer some serious, quality choices and I guarentee various productiion numbers will drive sales between these competitors.
I just don't think you can ingnore numbers.

Dear Ray,
Watch out, I think it depends on the dealer -- some have plenty coming and others will not. I recently tried to order the new King Tiger (WS71) from my regular, authorized K&C dealer. I was shocked to hear he would not have any stock (the ones he ordered are spoken for), and that he could not order anymore from K&C (the entire production run already sold to dealers?). Of course, there are a lot of K&C dealers who will have stock and I can get WS71, but I have always tried to stay loyal to my long time dealer.:(

Regarding the parenthetical question in Steven's post, I had heard that the entire allotment had been sold out to dealers already.

Re : King Ting & Char B1bis contretemps

Hi Guys

First of all, a big thank you to Shannon, Louis, Brad and others too numerous to mention for your support and understanding on this “tempest in a teacup”.

I would also like to thank Steven Chong for his suggestion of “planned production run” – brilliant Steve, that is exactly what I was trying to say but sometimes “I’m too close to the wood to see the tree.”

I promise I’ll be using that term in the future.

Finally a big, wet kiss to my dear friend Njja… all is forgiven!

Best wishes and…Happy Collecting!

Thanks Andy C.

I do admire your products, and appreciate all the hard work and planning

that has gone into your success. I am an avid collector but I will not hesitate

not even for a second to Yell if I think you are making a mistake. To do so

would be a disservice to you and your fine product line.

When I tell you that your products are superior you will always know I mean

it.

What would be wrong with having every item a limited edition? - Andy has already proved that - for example with the Stug4 - the real collectors buy them all (I have) - and up to a point he can always change the paint scheme later like with the CharB and King Tiger.:)

I am collecting because I like (no love) ) the product, but in the longer term I want it to at least hold its value for my kids - or my pension. :(

I might be tempted elsewhere - holidays, cars etc - or even another house! - in this very wide world if I have to spend this amount of money for toy soldiers but they will not hold their value.

Competition is on the way in 1/30 and whilst I would be surprised if they can truly compete yet, most of us only have so much money to spend?

Well isn't this special. We can all have a great big group hug. Oh, I feel so warm and fuzzy right now. :p

It is really cool to be able to have these kinds of discourse and not cause any harm. Intelligent people (and aren't we, after all we are toy soldier collectors - the smartest, brightest, coolest collectors in existence) should be able to disagree and discuss issues. If we can't agree to disagree in a civilized manner, well then let's all just go back to the cave and eat our meat raw. Michael

One day in the far distant future when Andy and all of us are long gone they will in books refering to the "Golden age of rebirth for toy soldiers", and show pictures of all the great and diversified sets of King and Country figures and vehicles.
And Louis's collection will be in the Smithsonian, next to that Billionaire's collection and kids and adults will ohh and ahh at all the great toys.
P.S. and they will all, even the lowliest, will be worth a fortune!

Now isn't that a great future to look forward to. :) Michael

Hi Guys,

I know we had a small discussion on this forum about the Char I just found one on ebay from a guy in Virgina that is sell it for $400+shipping.

Anyone surprised by this price?

Dave

A little. I haven't (I don't believe) seen to many on ebay. Even the retired KT is not fetching anywhere near that. In my view, a fair price for a retired Char would be in the $150 range. I actually don't like the tank that much, to be honest.

I would exhaust the dealer route for recent retired or limited editions before going to ebay. I am fortunate enough to have a couple of toy soldier stores nearby with KC dealers and almost everything, including at least one Winter Tiger, still appears to available. Would get a different impression from just reading the posts herein. Everyone seems to be lamenting the limited number of upcoming Rommel cars though -so that might be the real deal.

Many years ago new collectors would come up to me at a show or in my Hong Kong store and ask, “If I buy this will it increase in value?”
My answer was always the same… “Don't buy it for that reason, buy it because you like it and it gives you pleasure.”
Years later the same question still comes up. I always give the same answer.

Best wishes and…Happy Collecting!

Right on, Andy! Repaints give us newcomers another shot at buying a piece we like without going into the secondary market. As far as the numbers game goes, in much of the "collectible" market, limited means as many as you can produce in set amount of time, usually one calendar year, strictly limited or numbered limited edition is just that. No harm, no foul, keep up the good work.:)
