Real or fake? (1 Viewer)

Not sure about the mounted WW2 Germans, but Tom did make some, so maybe someone else will reply .....

but the same seller also has some Thomas Gunn Napoleonic Prussians that were manufactured, but never released onto the market.
I recall seeing a post by Tom saying that he wasn't happy with the standard of the production, these were sample figures, and so didn't go ahead with them.
There were 2 regiments, the same bodies wearing greatcoats, but different heads.

I also notice some K&C WW2 figures there too, so where did they come from ?? The same factory ???

I hope that helps?

Yeah, FairCloverLand is a toy and tool & die maker located in Hong Kong. They have cast for various toy soldier makers, including the late Ed Lober's and Alan Silk's Guard Corps. That's how FCL has the Imperial German and US Civil War figures that it sells, both on eBay and through its website, http://www.fairtechhk.com/index.htm. If I remember correctly, they were also the successor to King-White.

Prost!

Yes, thank you very much.

I bought a gun with crew 2 years ago, allegedly, from Thomas Gunn in China, which, as I now know, has never come on the market from TG.

Packaging, presentation, everything was deceptively real, I might have had to pay attention at the price of about 30 dollars. The set isn't bad at all, maybe it's fallen off the truck somewhere.

I think we've got an old discussion about that question, too. I think Andy himself may have posted to clarify.

When I saw this thread title, I thought it was regarding something else being real or fake...……………..:wink2:

Regardless; that was never a figure TGM produced/sold, at least through the dealer network.

China really is the wild west, that is for sure.

I have no record / recall TGM releasing that cavalry figure. But back in 2011, TGM did produce six mounted SS (in spring and winter variations) - SS007 to SS012. They were very easily damaged in transit. Photo of the complete winter set:

Actually, I would say these are real and simply were not taken or approved for final sale by the Toy Soldier Company. The Factory retained ownership of these figures and is simply selling off the stock. They are a legit business as has been posted before. The same applies to Eagle Designs. Simply the factories are selling direct of stock that didn't meet final approvals, or wasn't agreed and paid for or whatever other reason. If there was a fake or counterfeit issue, I believe the Companies would be stepping in and complaining.

Just my 2 cents

But what about Eagle design selling company figures that where released?

They sell what was not taken by the Companies for whatever reason, I believe Andy indicated that they were K&C legit figures, but were not formally and finally approved by K&C, so the factory was free to do what they want with it, which in this case is sell it.

It doesn't look like a TG figure to me. I had several of their German cavalry figures (I still have the one with the soldier patting the horse), and they didn't have big, poorly defined hands like that. The oversized, non-detailed reins don't look like TG either. The base is different too. To me only thing TG about the figure on ebay is the box.

Joe,
I think and not positive but these were figures that TGunn were going to make but rejected the final product and I would assume didn't pay for them if they were not what they wanted. Therefore this factory is probably selling them off. Technically, they are TGunn figures, just were never released b/c didn't meet the standard.

I think Tom is right...
I collect TG...
and these don't meet their standard...
sounds like the factory is trying to salvage someone's shoddy work or rejects...
another case of intellectual theft to some degree...

Tom,

I think that is likely and/or it could be an unfinished sculpt that somebody Frankensteined together.

Joe

Ive passed this onto TGM for them to comment so lets wait for that.

Below are photos of the ones they did make and sell, 7 winter ones (not 6) and 8 summer ones.

Cheers,

Stefan

Thanks for the photos. But a new challenge for me not related to fake or otherwise. I'm one for completeness and my records show I only have 12 of the 15 cavalry figures you show. I'll need to find the storage containers and double check but I probably have another 3 figures to add to my TGM want list.

Thank you, Tom! I was thinking of a way of expressing this, but you have done so, perfectly.

Complaining about companies in China copying stuff or infringing on copyright is a waste of time.

Lego's patent expired in 2011. Lepin, and other Chinese companies, have been copying Lego's design (as copying the bricks is now legal, but not Lego's designs - they are still intellectual property) since and eventually Chinese courts ruled against Lepin, and others, in 2017. thats 6 years - and only after a lot of political pressure on the Chinese to take action in the courts.

Only a couple of months ago (almost 2 years later), as Lepin were still copying, did the Chinese authorities step in and arrest the staff at Lepin and other Lego copiers and destroy their copied stock.

small Toy soldier companies have no chance of getting anywhere with complaining in my opinion.

Cheers,

Stefan
