Just started watching this on sky now
Winner of the 2010 Sundance Grand Jury Prize, and heralded as possibly the best war film ever made, Restrepo focuses on the deployment of a US platoon in Afghanistan's hostile Korengal Valley . Over the course of 15 months, the two filmmakers Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger (author of 'The Perfect Storm') lived with the unit shadowing their every move, resulting in extraordinary footage. From spectacular combat and ambush scenes to difficult discussions with local village elders, civilian and military deaths, never before has such access been granted. Restrepo is as close as it gets to seeing what life as a soldier is really like.

I haven't seen the movie but I have read the book "War," which I think is worth a read although there have been some critical reviews of it.

thoroughly amazing stuff a recommend for anyone to see

I thing this is on the National Geograhic channel tonight 8pm Eastern time for one hour

My son is with 101st in Afghanistan right now. Watching with great interest. Three of his platoon members were wounded two weeks ago while returning from patrol. Fortunately all will recover.

God bless your son, prayers for his safe return, and thank him for his service.

Having watched this and being very impressed by the soldiers under awful conditions, I find myself much better educated on the terrible terrain these men must deal with, on top of fighting the enemy. The news clips and "60 Minutes" episodes I have seen didn't help me see the terrain and fighting conditions like this doc has. Very much worth watching. -- Al
