I created my first diorama, a winter scene of the German Rhineland in 1945 using the new WWII figures from Britains. The center piece is the Normandy Barn from H&A.

I learned a lot from making this display which measures 34x34 inches. Being more a Vignette guy, I created small scenes to populate it. Currently, there are weary paratroopers joining the Volksgrenadiere to create the Kampfgruppe Krüger, two Volksgrenadiere (remembering the rumors that German speaking US GIs infiltrate German units) suspiciously eying the newcomers and a boy from the Hitlerjugend admiring a tank from the past - a Tiger I. But more scenes will hopefully be added over time -at the speed of Britains’ WWII releases.

And an FL Tiger for drama.

For those who are on the fence about creating your own diorama: if I can do it, you can do it. It was actually fun. But it is time to attend one of Ken’s Workshops ....

Very nicely done. Nice placement of the barn and stone walls, great looking ground work and winter trees. Well staged and photographed. The German figures look excellent :wink2: . . .

You make it look easy and so realistic, but you are using some great products that assist enormously. Very nice indeed and good back story as well. Robin

Andanna- is the tanker a kronprinz model ?

Re: Rheinland 1945: Tabletop Diorama with Britains Figures and Normandy Barn from H&A

Thank you for all the feedback.

Mike, I now have Volksgrenadiere, Fallschirmjäger and Hitlerjugend in the scene - and I can still explain it logically. I am just now warming up to adding Waffen SS. ^&grin

I totally agree with you, Robin. I tackled the diorama out of desperation: my favorite diorama makers like the Osen‘s, Rodrigo DeBrito and Alex C. all moved on to better things. I am a big fan of the H&A scenics and I think the Normandy scenics work very well here.

The tanker is a stand in for the recently announced FL tankers and is from Dragon in 1/35.

Thank you, Brad. I was considering starting anew because of the many things I would do differently now, but I will pass. It is quite a bit of work.

The trees are an Experiment with sagebrush which was mildly successful:

I like the bark texture of your trees. They look weathered.

Prost!

Excellent work, one day I'll get back into making dioramas....always seems to be something more pressing....like fishing.

Great Diorama Andanna. Excellent photography. The Kronprinze Panzer Kommanders work very well with FL and Figarti Panzers. The problem with dioramas for a lot of collectors is the space required! I usually set up a temporary diorama and do extensive photos from many angles. I than disassemble it and move on to the next subject of interest. The same work space serves for each diorama or scene; rangeing from Panzers in combat to Romans under siege. I keep special Halogen lighting set up in the work space to facilitate the process.

Outstanding diorama Andanna!!!!!!! I've always been a fan on small detail, such as your falling leaves, trees, the weathered top of the barn, it really is a great looking set up, I look forward to seeing what you may come up with next.

Andreas,

I see that you got some time to finally work on this thing. Looks fantastic!!! Great job.

The trees turned out perfectly too. Awesome all the way around.......great staging, figure placement, storyline...etc.

Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate all the positive feedback.

Louis, I am actually studying your Winter Tiger diorama that you purchased from Figarti and which had been made by Ken (2010?). I am considering snow patches to get the temperature on the diorama to drop by a couple of degrees (visually). But I am probably going to chicken out as I am too afraid to ruin the existing groundwork. Any thoughts are welcome, Andreas

I would be happy to take some close-up photos of Ken's winter diorama for you, if that would help. I am no where near as good with the groundwork as either you or Ken, so I can't give you any further thoughts that would be particularly helpful on the issue.

Re: Rheinland 1945: Tabletop Diorama with Britains Figures and Normandy Barn from H&A

Thank you, Louis. I hope I got is somehow right. Snow is irreversible ....

I overcame my hesitation and let it snow last night:
