Probably thought he was a slave owner.

Some of the monuments being destroyed or defaced don't make sense. For example the 54th Mass in Boston which commemorates the black regiment depicted in the movie Glory. Would have been nice to see Denzel and Morgan Freeman speak out and remind people about the history of the Regiment. Unfortunately speaking out at this time seems to bring down the wrath of the mob. Better to take a knee.

The guy who defaced the Churchill statue in London explained that Churchill was only trying to defend the Empire when facing off against the Germans. Clearly he must have had no problems or even know about Hitlers attitude towards minorities. Perhaps never heard of Jesse Owens and the Berlin Olympics plus the occupants of the concentration camps.
 
I was thoroughly disgusted to hear of Churchills statue being vandalised in the UK!

As predicated the Captain Cook statue here in Gisborne, NZ was attacked and even had swastika's spray painted all over it.

How on earth you compare Cook with Nazi's is beyond me!

Your locals just upset that the Hawaiians killed Cook and not them.

Uh oh, I just realised I am white and have been to Hawaii a few times. I really should have thought about boycotting the place because the nasty residents killed Cook. That will teach them.

We now have Police standing around protecting statues....sheer lunacy.

An act of vandalism clearly to get attention.......attention which is going to spectacularly backfire on them...

As if there's not enough of a challenge going on right now for everyone....

You guys got it all wrong. The defacing of some of the statues is done by the ALT RIGHT movement because the person was NOT RACIST. That person could have perpetuated white supremacy and DID NOT!

With all due respect, the majority of these monuments from Lee to Churchill to Columbus to Robert Gould Shaw (leader of the 54MA regiment (Black regiment)) were defaced by anarchists, rioters, looters, Black Lives Matter and others with an agenda including the ALT Right. But the majority are opportunists who want disarray and anarchy and want to rewrite history. I am not in any way going to place the blame at the feet of the ALT Right who are probably the smallest miniscule piece of crap in this whole mess and quite frankly would not even exist except for the coverage they receive from the media. All of these fringe groups are worthless pieces of crap.

My belief is the lack of strong local leadership has allowed this to get out of control, it has to end, we are not a third world craphole of a country but we look like one right now. What is occurring is absolutely IDIOTIC from all standards of view, I don't care what you believe, this is KRAY KRAY KRAZY and stupid. The worst part is you now have media, major companies, etc. perpetuating these idiotic ideas b/c they are afraid if they actually open a dialogue, stay silent or offer a different point of view, they will be labeled as Racist. That is just plain idiotic horse manure.
