There are a number of new Trophy listings on eBay (June 1, 2019) that are listed as being from the Sam Floca Collection. Who is Sam and why does it matter that some toy soldiers came from his collection? Is this provenance important and add value to the item? ( in the same manner maybe as something that was from the Malcolm Forbes collection).

I ask only because I'm relatively new to the collectors' circle and am not familiar with the VIPs of the hobby. My question is merely for my own enlightenment and is not meant to be critical in any way.

Re: Who Is Sam Floca?

Sam is one of the biggest collectors in the hobby, and, among other things, has a huge Trophy collection. He is also a decorated war hero; Colonel Floca fought in Vietnam. Unfortunately, age is getting the best of him and he's decided to part with his collection. He sold his Trophy collection to Champs and Bums.

He is also one heck of a nice guy!

Sammy is on the right...
the guy on the left is some boofus that bombed the photo...

Re: Who Is Sam Floca?

Sam is a great guy and I am very honoured to have him as a very good friend. I know he thinks the world of my Grandson Archie :salute::

Cheers

Re: Who Is Sam Floca?

Sam is one of my favorite people I have ever met in the hobby. He is a collector at heart and enjoys the quest of finding things! I have truly enjoyed getting to know him.

Re: Who Is Sam Floca?

Thanks to Sam I have been able to make some nice additions to my own Trophy collection. Based on the items that are being listed on eBay in recent weeks, it looks like it was quite an extensive collection.

Re: Who Is Sam Floca?

He might have the wrong person selling off his collection. The prices are quite high and most of his auctions go unsold. I noticed a couple he has relisted at an even higher price with a best offer included in order to obtain the original high prices that he started with. Doesn't he know how edu magated we trophy collectors are

You can’t blame Sam for selling to Peter as I’m sure he received a good price.

I’ve followed Peter’s auctions for a few years and this is the way he prices things. I think there are some collectors who don’t mind paying a little more for a hard to find piece. He has a couple of Mutiny elephants with riders and the prices don’t seem outlandish.

oh i did not know he sold to him, i figured they were on consignment. So that makes sense

Re: Who Is Sam Floca?

I made a deal with the seller on a best offer and finally picked up a Trophy Stsff Car, the Maharaja of Bikaner’s Touring Car.

Nicely done Louis and congrats on the acquisition. I was looking at that item too, but it was bit over my budget plus I'm not really collecting much of Trophy India figures.

Re: Who Is Sam Floca?

There seems to be an eBay buyer, g***b, who is all in with over $5,000 in total bids for Floca Collection items. That must make Peter very happy.;)

Re: Who Is Sam Floca?

I'm wondering if forum management could change the title of this thread to something like

"Sam Floca Collection "?

This looks a little better than the original thread title and more accurately reflects the direction of this thread as a place to talk about Sammy's collection.

Camel Corps foot officer for $80 and the trumpeter for $70 are listed on eBay today. Wow! I should start selling off my CC if they bring prices like that. {eek3}

Yeah, I note that some of the prices are greater than sets still being offered by the manufacturers. Don't understand why folks buy them at that prices . . . perhaps they have more ready cash than they know what to do with.
