i just got my AK VW (Kdf). Do you think it looks a bit too small when placed next to the other vehicles and figures? I love the car by itself, but when I place it in my big desert diorama, it does look too small. Opinions?

Do you have the AK Kübelwagen??

If so that is 3.74m long. (Scale 1:1)

As the Beetle is longer, about 2.4m, then it will be bigger, if made the same scale, due to the bigger from luggage compartment, bumper bars, and rear engine cover.

See how they line up and let us know.....

But, I'd expect it to smaller than a TIGER TANK ^&grin

Based on the actual dimensions of the WWII VW ( the car was actually named Kraft durch Freude Car- it was renamed Volkswagen by the British after the war) and reduced to the 1/30 scale, the dimensions should approx. be
L:13,5cm
W: 6 cm
H: 5 cm

also, compared to a jeep, the Kubelwagen is larger 3.74m vs 3.33 m in length and almost the same width so the Volkswagen should be just larger than a jeep.

HERE IS THE VW AND KUBEL.SCALE LOOKS OK TO ME.MIKE B.

My family had a two beetles when I was growing up, a 1969 and a 1980, and I know they were small, but not that small. The AK model is the same size as the Kubelwagen as it should be since they had the same chasis.

Just received my AK VW ....here's the comparison

Since very few "Beatles" were produced during the war, the K & C VW AK bug is most likely Fantasy piece that requires no accurate scale.

Simon,
thanks for the pics. They are exactly right in size, the pics prove it. As pointed out earlier the Kubel was built on the VW chassis.

It isn't a fantasy piece. The main Volkswagen production was for Kubelwagens with I think 18" tires - 50,000 were built 1941-1944. But as the chassis and many parts were the same for the Beetle, 630 Beetle Sedans (with 16" tires ?) were produced between July 11, 1941 and Aug 7, 1944. They were mostly for Nazi Party officials.

Was the comment aimed at the actual use by the military in campaigns rather than its actual existance. I think thats what I took from the post??

And I seriously doubt that any ended up in North Africa or any other war zone

I only meant that it isn't a fantasy piece - it was an actual car and has actual and accurate measurements. Since most were for Nazi Party officials, it's likely that few, if any, got into combat zones until after D-Day.
