Scratchbuilt Alamo (1 Viewer)

Texan....you are 3 years off for being able to take daguerreotype of the Alamo looking that way. ;)

Beyond Awesome!!:cool::cool::cool::cool: Welcome to the forum! What part of Texas do you hail from? While not a native Texan, I lived in Beaumont and Irving for several years.

Hi Texan,

Since my wife and I grew up in Texas, I, too, am interested in learning where you were located in Texas. We now make our home in Kansas and have lived here for quite a few years. We make periodic trips to Texas and I am also wondering if we pass close to your present residence in Oklahoma when we travel to Texas.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Hey Wadepat and Louis, I am originally from Irving, just outside Dallas and I now live out in the country (and I mean COUNTRY) in Lenapah, OK (45 min north of Tulsa). Lived in Wichita, KS for about 5 yrs as well, but there's no place like TEXAS!

Thanks for your comments as well. I'm working on a 1/150 scale?? (something like 1in. = 12.5ft) of the Alamo right now. I'm horrible at figuring scale. Do they have scale charts of some sorts? Anyone? Should have the facade finished tonight. If I finish, and it looks presentable, I'll post some shots. Just hope I don't break it. That balsa foam gets kind of thin at that scale!

Hi Tex,

Thanks for the response and welcome to the Treefrog Forum! My wife grew up in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area while my Texas home is on the Gulf Coast. If you live 45 minutes north of Tulsa, you are almost in Kansas again! :D

Is Lenapah very far off U.S. Highway 75? We used to travel Highway 75 when we would drive to visit my wife's family in East Texas. And,...you are correct, there is no place like Texas!

I am sorry I cannot help you with your scale question, but I certainly look forward to viewing the photos of your Alamo facade. I am sure some of the very skilled diorama builders and modelers on this forum will come to your aid shortly.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Texan,
What do you collect besides Alamo?
Mark

I have the Marx Fort Apache and Commanche Pass (think that's what it's called) with the 2 mountains. Loved that one when I was a kid. My kids have it set up right now. Pretty cool to see them doing some of the things I did when I was a kid. I also have the Marx WWII and just found in my mom's attic the big Marx cowboys. They're something like 6-7" tall. Great detail on those. More recently I have a pretty good collection of Old Glory, mainly for Alamo dioramas. And I dabble in figure painting and have painted mostly Andrea and Michael Roberts. I love the Conte figures as far as the Alamo is concerned. The Mexicans, in my opinion, are some of the best sculpts I've seen, but the "permanent bend" in those rifles just kills me!

I have Andrea and Michael Roberts kits That I had painted by professionals, mostly Woodland Indians and Vikings.

Just in case anyone's interested, here is the Alamo facade of my newest "little" project. It's roughly 2 in. tall! Hard to get all the detail in there that I wanted, but I tried.;)

Hello Everyone, This is my first post, so be patient if my images don't come through! I scratchbuilt this Alamo over the last 2 months out of balsa foam. The only part not from the balsa foam is the ledge molding over the four front columns, the cannon ramp and the palisade, which were all made from strip styrene. The ground work was pretty much thrown on for photo purposes and can be swept off until ready to be secured. So don't critique me too much on that! Hope you enjoy.

Wow Wee, Beautiful piece of artwork in such a small scale.
I find the smaller the scale the more difficult it is to create.
Not for you. Welcome to the Forum.
Regards

Nick
