This has nothing to do with a recent thread about selling his collection that has been shut down. But let me ask you folks this.
When one decides to sell a part or all his collection isn,t that person trying to get the most (money) he can? Isn,t that the reason he is selling, either because of a financial hardship or he simply is tired of collecting. My point is this, as a seller why would he care WHO bought his items be it another collector, dealer, speculator or a man from Mars, who cares. He don,t want the items any longer, he now wants to try to regain the money he has spent, noticed I did not say invested.
It,s not like he is selling a pet dog he can no longer care for and is looking for a good home for it.
Personally once I sell an item, it,s done and gone. I just read now and then people post about these evil speculators, if they pay the top dollar, they now own it and do with it what they want.

I don't know if this answers your question Gary but a certain "dealer" that we know in the South offered to buy my Civil War soldiers that I had posted on here. I had thought we worked out a deal even though I wasn't completely happy with the price and then when I asked him to send me his address for PayPal I never heard anything more from him again, even though I pmed him twice.

At that point I decided to list them on eBay and I blocked this person from bidding on my auctions even though he might have paid a higher price than anybody. I'd rather sell to a collector at a lower price than a person like him.

By the way this was the second time he had done this to me as we were ready to close a transaction. Never again.

Money before principle? Nope.

Brad, on that particular deal you had, you are right as he had dooped you. If it,s who I think it is, he is also blocked from bidding on my auctions. I,m talking about a straight deal where both parties consumate the sale with no undercuttings.

It matters to me. I wouldn't sell to someone I didn't like. Although this thread is not about Serge, what he tried to do was very commendable. We need nice people in this world. Many people have helped me throughout my life. Top dollar is not everything. Gary, I've bought from you and you are very fair in your dealings.
On another note, in an old thread, I replied I rather get beaten to a pulp than to use deadly force. Gary, I've since changed mind. There are people out there that are just plain evil and should not be given a chance if they attack you. In Hawaii, we have some of the most strict gun laws in the nation and you have to be very careful should you use force. I think Hawaii gun laws probably scares me the most.

Yes, we are talking about the same person :wink2:

I think if people are using this forum for selling, they are likely targeting fellow collectors. If you want top dollar, I think ebay or consignment sales with some of the large dealers on this forum including TF treasures would be a more appropriate channel. While it is a free country and capitalism makes the world go round, there is nothing more frustrating when a reseller jumps in buys up an entire lot which no intention of retaining it but simply making a buck off a fellow TFer. I say do your estate sales, bargain bin ebay purchases and leave the Treefrog forum to the collectors.

hmm sounds dirty and familiar
on another note I am a collector- and always feel duped when I missed something good on here- a collectors forum, and it ends up on ebay the next week- notwithstanding someone once offered my first crack at a case of buyers remorse here- which was very appreciated.

Interesting thread, I don't really sell much, but if I do I'm a bit old fashioned and would like to think the item is going to someone that really appreciates it and will enjoy it. I'm not overly keen on speculators and those simply wanting to make a quick buck. I'm more into promoting the hobby and helping out fellow collectors if I can. Over the years I've found most TF members have been very helpful and accommodating and operate under a similar ethos.

Sadly however there are always a few that work against the grain and manage to spoil it for others.

Who cares? You sell an item and want shot of it and someone comes in with the money you want are we really going to say no because they are a dealer?

Every dealer buys stuff in the anticipation of wanting to make more. Every one. Its how they make money. This just seems to revolve around the fact that some dislike the way some sell and buy etc. There are plenty of people who have shown themselves to care about cash first.

I want rid of my collection anyone who has the cash can have it. If your selling it up front and the dealer is acting up front then everyone knows where they stand. Its only problematic IMO when you get people saying they are buying for themselves and lying if everything is brought to the table no problems and, best of luck if you can make more.

The gentlemanly code of conduct believed to exist has been trashed so many times on here I can't believe people still think its in operation.

Noble thoughts, why not just give your collections away then since money is bad ? I'm sure all of the manufacturers wrestle with these thoughts everyday. Should I make a profit or make this stuff to better mankind at my exspense.

Also another story about that "southern dealer" mentioned earlier. He buys a K&C item from me on eBay that was clearly listed without the original box. He gets it, then admits he never read the item description. He demands I take it back at my expense. I refuse and he files a claim against me, which eBay only took about an hour to rule in my favor. Then he has the stones to leave me nasty negative feedback.

Never sold anything. I purchase my collection to enjoy; not an investment or to flip.

Personally, I would not like to think of a speculator making a fast buck out of a hobby I enjoy.

If I decided to sell and I knew from that a fellow collector wanted a piece then for their collection then I would try and help them out.

The amount I would get would be secondary but then I am in a fortunate situation.

If no one wanted a particular piece then I would look at the dealers who have always been good and fair to me and see it they could sell it on.

It's actually a very intersting thread

I am in the same situation as Serge.
I want to sell my whole KC collection... which I bought when foot figures were 20-25$ each ..
If someone is able to buy it as a whole and is able to pick it up in person, I am prepared to let it go for the price I paid plus 10%.... BUT
I will choose carefully who I sell it to : dealer or treefrogger I don't care really

Cheers

Alex
