Hi Guys,
Re… Victor MacLaglen… Although he usually played “Irish” in the movies and was originally of Scottish descent he was really… English!
Born in Kent sometime in the 1890’s. He served in the British Army during the First World War eventually rising to the tank of Major in the Military Police. Sometime around 1918/1919 he was actually Provost Major of Bagdad!!! How’s that for a job. He did box in the army and had a few professional fights. How he ended up in Hollywood in the 1920’s must be quite a story… but I don’t know it.
He was a star in silent movies before joining John Ford’s “Stock Company” and becoming more of a character actor and playing supporting roles in later life.
Maybe not the greatest actor around but a lot of fun to watch and enjoy.
Best wishes and happy collecting!
