Re: Slopy Paint Job

Again, why not just replace it?

Replacing it assumes the paint job on a subsequent model would be different, and to the customer's liking. But would it? Aren't they all painted similarly? Hence the new paint job...IMO, Jürgen

Does that mean the original poster now owns a unique Collector’s Showcase item that is a one of kind factory produced piece due to its different paint scheme which is not found on the production model?

Re: Slopy Paint Job

I'm not sure I would say it's "factory produced." It's customized by the "company." :)

Re: Slopy Paint Job

I think from reading and looking at the two sets of pictures only the hatches were repainted not the whole AFV. I would not think this counts as a one-of-a kind. Its not the hatches which were the major concern to the original poster.

I would like to see some other pics from people who have this. I would agree with Jurgen that they should all be rather similar as the format will be set to be copied by the factory painters. I also agree that it should have just been replaced immediately and avoided any fuss. The original poster should have just said this is not what I want a perfect one or refund.

Re: Slopy Paint Job

So as the admin of the forum I have to say I'm not very thrilled about the reception many of you who have posted on this thread have given this member's concern.
This is a long-standing member of the forum (joined in 2006) who reads the forum avidly but does not usually post.
As I understand it an issue comes up where this member buys an item, opens it up and finds three problems 1) the turret is a different color than the hull, 2) the hatches are a different color than the hull and 3) the machine gun pieces are missing from the box.
He contacts the manufacturer who says "No problem, send it back and we'll fix it." He sends it back and it is returned to him with the turret beautifully repainted--but with issues #2 and #3 unresolved. He figures they must not have read the note he enclosed with the vehicle so he calls them up again. They tell him "No problem, send it back and we'll fix it." He does, and it returned to him with the hatches repainted but not a color that matches the picture...and without the missing machine gun pieces.
He makes a rare post here asking you, his fellow forum members if he is being too picky.

Your answers range from making fun of his spelling (rude, and not the point), two of you hijacking the thread to argue between yourselves about another issue (not the point, not helpful and not appropriate), ignoring the issues he raised and instead telling him the manufacturer does great work and gives great service (he already knew this, he started his whole post saying this himself--he's a fan, he has ordered for years, loves the product and has never had a problem until now - the point) and also telling him he should have tried to work it out with the manufacturer (he tried and felt it failed-again, the point).

MY point is that if a guy who rarely posts actually does post, maybe it would behoove the other forum members to encourage said member to continue to post more in the future by actions such as actually staying on topic, reading the question being asked thoroughly before popping off an off-the-cuff answer and actually being helpful instead of turning it into a critique of spelling and syntax or an opportunity to rah rah a manufacturer.
We are always encouraging collectors to join the forum as well as encouraging them to post and if this is the sort of response you see when you see someone giving it a try, why would you want to?

Now I'll answer the question as well, since I'm already posting anyway. This is my personal opinion as well as business opinion.

So there are three issues, two are dealt with already, and the third is easily resolved. Seems to me the place where this all broke down was someone missed the note outlining the details of what the problems were. Easy to do, easy to fix.
Personal opinion:
At minimum popping the missing machine gun pieces in the mail with a "Sorry, we must have missed the note you enclosed, here are the missing pieces," would no doubt satisfy the long-standing customer and lead to a happy ending. Done.
Better, would be also to refund the return shipping for at least the second return. Done and done.
Best would be to refund all the return shipping for the hassle the customer has experienced and send the missing pieces.
Professional opinion:
I don't know the CS's policies but Treefrog customers know that in this situation you would have gotten a choice to return or replace (we aren't a manufacturer so we don't have the expertise to repair) with a return tag sent to you for the 'not as expected' item either way.
All the above make for a happy customer-the goal of manufacturers and dealers alike.

Re: Slopy Paint Job

Very very good answer.

Just saw the pictures of the tank in post #1.
What a bad paint job really !
I mean, if I was in your shoes, I would have returned everything and ask for full refund because product was not what it was supposed to be.

Easier this way.

Cheers

Alex

I disagree, the spelling quip was a well timed beak up of the feud between Mitch & PA44, and it served well to clear the air & reset the discussion.

Re: Slopy Paint Job

Making fun of somebody's spelling is never acceptable, even less so when he's a Viet Nam Vet.

Re: Slopy Paint Job

CLEARLY this comment is directed at me and if I have in any shape way or form insulted yourself or the gentleman I would offer my sincerest apologies this very instant. I cannot possibly put into words how perplexed or puzzled I am that anyone who has read any of my posts on this forum or has gotten to know me over the years could possibly think for one second that I would ever intentionally insult a Nam vet. That would be tantamount to me pissing on the graves of my grandfathers- both Nam vets with multiple tours or slapping my NCOs in the face when I served with the 506- the bulk of whom were combat Nam veterans and whos experience taught me lessons that would no doubt have saved my life.

For what it's worth, my comment was made to lighten then mood, NOT insult people. I think I have razzed people before on spelling- even my "Cats in the Cradle" thread has a typo as cradle is spelled with one d. So clearly I have worn out my welcome and am retiring under less than honorable circumstances. Please delete my account, as I have requested from you several times before.

Re: Slopy Paint Job

Chris I viewed your comment when you first made it and took the same line as you to lighten the mood and saw the funny side. Your last post was fair enough until you made the leap saying clearly you had worn out your welcome. Please reconsider your stance, it won't be the last time you and I in the future will take exception to people's comments, it seems to be the way of the world these days. I am sure the forum appreciate your many posts and diorama's and it would be a shame to leave over such a small matter which will be forgotten by tomorrow. This forum from the amount of years you have contributed, clearly shows it's a big part of your life, so lets keep that way or else ( view as funny, not a threat), see how easy it could be to get someone off side, the power of the WORD. All the best, hope you stay, cheers, Robin.

Re: Slopy Paint Job

there is a lot of grammer police around on here so, this is certainly not the first time but, I agree that in this case it was meant as light hearted levity rather than some of the other occasions when it has not been. I think Chris from the way he posts would have put it anyway regardless of the defence that it was injecting humour where rancour with me and PA was allegedly happening.

I also think the ''I am leaving'' issue does not work at all when someone disagrees with you its used a little to much and, after the first time has no impact at all. so, chris, just take it on the chin its a nothing issue and post.

I also am not sure what more the original poster could have expected that Shannon intimates in her post? He posted a comment like many have and, from reading all the replies its exactly how others have been responded to when they say they have had bad service from CS etc. Some will say they have had good and some will disagree.

Are we now really saying that we have to ask if a poster has been in the military before responding and, if they have we just have to agree because of that fact? Quite strange and, I am sure the poster is a fine decent person but, lets not forget the number of military personel who end up in jail, etc not everyone is as automatically as good as everyone seems to think on here who is in the military. Thats like saying you served you may have been charged with murder or rape or whatever but, as you say the tank is pants here I agree have a free one!!!

If Brian does not feel a new product is the way forward and fixes the other is that not his right? we seem very high and mighty saying what someone else should be doing with their own products. If you ask the original poster if any of these posts hurt his feelings I am sure they would be answered in the negative depending on how they viewed the spelling issue. Most of the issue is with how criticism of manufacturers is taken by posters on these forums and, this is again highlighting that
Mitch

Chris, you don't have to leave mate, its not that serious. I saw your post as light hearted and not meant as an insult at all, you've also apologized which shows a lot my friend, if more people did this and actually meant it this place would be the better for it.. On the flip side Shannon is quite right in that several posts in this thread simply do not belong here or have nothing to do with the question. Also we are all guilty at some points in our forum history of thread drifting and most often it is not done on purpose, its just how things go, but its always best at some point to bring it back on topic.

Another good point Shannon raised is that this was a specific question/point and not an invitation to bash CS as a whole, god knows over the years how many threads have been hijacked and ruined by someone who takes one complaint links it and then uses it to bash a producer/product/collectors, and my god it gets tedious after the third time. Some people simply refuse to say ' I don't like this product' and move on, no we all have to hear it over and over. Poor etiquette and lack of consideration for others, especially on someone else's thread.

Not worth leaving the forum over this Chris.

Re: Slopy Paint Job

Read the whole thread Rob there was no bash CS whatsover in fact the majority were actually saying how well they did when things went wrong. Its down to the mods and the owners who police this site what is allowed and whats not. As you know scale damage paint style and cost are the most repeated posts on this forum and if people don't like they can just skip over them. Peer influence here fails because most of those who decry certain things are usually as guilty of it as the ones the finger is pointed at from my limited experience of course.

What is the difference of the OP being NAM vet have to do with civility? For this thread, it is irrelevant to say the least. This may be non- PC. BFD if someone is a combat vet. I am one. So? Does this mean I get any extra respect for a typo? Nope, and I don’t expect it.

I agree with the levity comment. PA44 & Mitch love to verbally spar, and at times, I chime in with them. We all go to the cooler.

For the OP, I do present respects to a combat vet. I understand your frustrations and hopefully Brian will work with you offline. Brian is a great person and does his best to ensure his customers are happy.

I'm guilty as charged...I have never considered one's occupation or service record before commenting...why would that influence my opinion...

For all intensive purposes I think it is time to..........move on. :wink2:

Exactly. Respect should be earned & the OP earned my respect by his measured & restrained posts. He could have really popped off but instead held on to the high ground.

Those who kowtow to vets without knowing their background (vets DO come with a host of issues too) ... well, I'll leave it at that
