What is Smoko?
Mark

Mark, the term 'Smoko' down here for us ANZACs simply means a Smoke or Cigarette Break.

Morning and afternoon tea break often used to be referred to as 'Smoko' when I was a young fella at work.

Its a term not that PC anymore due to all the anti smoking laws.

Cheers.

It's mainly called Morning Tea by Office workers, who often get Afternoon Tea as well. In any case not much tea is drunk, mainly coffee and you're only allowed to smoke in designated areas, away from people eating

I work in the Construction Industry, we never call it Morning Tea, have always called it 'Smoko'. It's usually taken in the morning around 9.00 am, but depends when you started work and if you're on shift/night work etc. Outdoor workers rarely have an afternoon Smoko as work usually finishes by 3.00 pm as most bosses don't like paying overtime (over 8 Hours). Officially Smoko lasts about 15 minutes, but usually goes longer, especially if you are all having a good yarn (Conversation), and the Boss isn't around, and you get paid for it ^&grin

In Australia you are not allowed to smoke in any work place, including outdoors in most situations, yes they are officially pretty tough on actual smoking here. However the rules are sometimes overlooked when working outdoors and away from any building entrances etc.

As it's a break between breakfast and lunch it's usually a light meal of your choice, some guys eat Rabbit tucker (lettuce/salad etc), some have a Pie with Coke or similar, I've seen one guy eat an entire BBQ chicken, with a large bottle of Coke, but he was a big boy. Funniest was when some guy eat Two Pies with a Diet Coke, I said why effing bother mate.

We sometimes get Kiwi sub contractors on our job site, usually doing Asphalting and Line Marking work. Always sounds funny to us Aussies when they say over the Two Way; "We're havin' Smoko Bro" ^&cool

Hi.
Please tell me about the building and the
terrain.

Hi.

terrain.

Mike, the terrain is made by a local company here called Scenic Textures. They produce a heap of good stuff for modeling. This particular blend is called Dry Desert. I just added some more sand and greenery to beef it up, but you can use it straight out of the plastic container and it’s good to go. It’s also not to heavy and easy to spread.

Funny I used to work with a big Poly lad when I was landscaping, he’d often buy 3x Big Ben mince pies and a big bottle of Fanta to eat at work. He’d have 1 for Smoko, 1 cold for lunch and the last one at 3 o’clock smoko. On pay day he’d buy a loaf of white bread and make pie sandwiches. That 2x slices of bread with the whole pie in the middle. Yum.

Those Polynesians are often large aren't they. I guess you could call him a Roly Poly, but I wouldn't :wink2:
