Some Horses (1 Viewer)

Have you tried slicing through the head and then putting in a shim?

Martin

Hello Martin,

Body halves I can do. I can't fillet thin horse heads, esp in metal...:).

Anyway, I did the obvious. I cut thru my expensive Metal model kit figure and removed the head, substituting it with a nice Historex head.

I selected one of the Starlux horses and substituted the head and tail with Historex items. I also knocked up a dolly figure and will start a new thread for this as a herald piece.

The mane was sculpted on the Metal Modeles horse. The proportions of this horse was compared to a Historex horse which displays an excellent pose. I'll probably use this for another kettledrummer piece.

Separately, I am working on another horse to be ridden by a modified Murat figure.

I worked more on the Murat horse, especially on the neck and breast area, reshaping the musculature drastically. I packed in a lot of putty on the abdominal area too. Still some more wip but I am satisfied with the reshaping.

Added some putty to the breast area to define the musculature more. Added the mane and test-fitted the saddle.

Worked quite a bit on these beasties. I added some fetlock details with my pyrogravure. I did hit a snag with undercoating a horse with old spray paint. I had to scrape and sand off the offending paint and resprayed with fresh paint. Will show these in my next photos.

I scoured my grey stables for more horses, especially the standing type. I note that the Historex beasties are beautifully sculpted and am planning to use these for (ahem) kettledrummers...:) Found one. The other is the Metal Modeles horse with the modified neck featured earlier and now spraypainted with white undercoat.

I also came across an old metal donkey (Beneito Miniatures) in 60mm scale. I decided to see if I could convert it into a small pony in 54mm scale. This would require lengthening the body and neck.

I worked on the two mounted ladies. Redid their hat brims in rolled out putty. Redid the feathers and then the hair. The tassels were attached and gently lengthened by rolling the putty to create furls.

What do they call a donkey with only three legs????

A wonky. :D jb

Hi JB,

Terrible joke! But that *** needs to have its butt shortened...:)

Oversprayed with matt white to check for imperfections. I added the arms for the figures which I think captures the intended attitude of these two riders.

These are turning out very nicely !

Well done.

Thank you for posting.

Hello Matt,

thanks for you comments. I've started to sculpt the arms but, due to the difficulty to work on the undersides, I've removed the arms to sculpt the frills on the sleeves.

I decided to add a couple of dogs to the scene. Decided that these should be French spaniels and looked these up. I happened to have a couple of Tamiya Alsatian dogs. These being in 1/35 scale would make good armatures for smaller 1/30 scale dogs. I changed the poses and added wires to reculpt the legs.

Hi All,

I am pleased to say that these ladies should be featuring in an upcoming magazine article.

Hi All,

The article has been published in Toy Soldier Collector 86. Enjoy!

I worked further on the QE2 figure. Added the bits and chains to the breast harness.
