But I haven't changed my mind. I watched Kelly's Heroes again and its still rubbish. Yes I know I'm a heretic, I know I am a voice in the wilderness and doing something in the wind, but this film is pants. Not a War film, rubbish acting, rubbish plot, hippy nonsense. There I've said it. As a piece of very light entertainment maybe passable, but for the love of God do not put it in the same Pantheon as Saving Private Ryan, The Great Escape, The Battle of Britain or Zulu......ITS NOT A WAR FILM!

If you want me I'll be in my nuclear shelter awaiting fallout^&grin:wink2:

Now lets try the Dirty Dozen again....

"...hippy nonsense..."

Well yeah......it was 1970. It was no Carry On Up The Khyber.

Carry on up the Khyber was closer to a War film and the acting was the same!^&grin

Try harder Rob...much harder!

It is a travesty of justice to compare it to great war films such as The BOB or Zulu as KHs is much more of a heist film in the vein of Oceans 11 (not the original, which was awful...Sammy Davis Jun. as ex special forces...cmon!). Compare it to other examples of that genre and it stands up quite well!

Sure Kelly's Heroes is no Glory or Zulu but given it's time and influences it is surprisingly good. Putting aside the ridiculus plot that three Tiger tanks are guarding a bank - those Tigers were pretty good. Certainly it was great to see them go to the trouble of knocking reasonable ones together and not using some 1960 US tank with a black cross painted on it. It was also reasonably gritty - the deaths in the mine field come paqrticularly to mind. A heap of fun and a creditable effort in all ways.

Rob thoroughly agree with your sentiments. But I'd still rather watch Kelly's Heroes to some other war films especially Anzio, the Battle of the Bulge, the Dirty Dozen, Force 10 from Navarone, Inglorious Basterds, the recently re-made Die Brücke and so many others.

Rob,
I am wondering, does this count a provoking an argument ?{sm4}

Clearly you have poor taste in movies ^&grin

I know I will be flogged but Kellys Hero's as a war movie is Ho Hum, but as a comedy it was good, one of the few American movies that is actually funny. {sm4}{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}
Wayne.

You should screen the movie at the bar, after the London show. It will give the guys a high faster than any G&Ts {sm3} ... and you can still drive after that. Absolutely love the film, hilarious especially Rickles and Sutherland.

The tigers and shermans were nice too :p one of my favourite DVDs.
