South Africa 2010 (2 Viewers)

I watched the Brazil - North Korea game today and I thought that the omnipresent noise was lower in volume then in any previous games.
So, hopefully the additional filters will work for any upcoming games.

Because half of the spectators was playing drums...:D

Just busting your chops :D. Brasil is ranked number 1 and Spain number 2. Spain won the Euro Cup in 2008 which, outside of the World Cup, is considered (sorry Latin American fans) the most prestigious tournament. Brasil is the holder of the equivalent for Latin America as well as the Confederations Cup (where Spain was ousted by the US, their only loss in about 60 matches).

Brasil had the Copa America also that could be the closets to Euro

Hi Guys,

I heard today that the BBC is going to put their commentators in a sound proof booth and let them call the game from there and cut the field sound out totally, you would think that the guys who run the show would reconsider the no banning of the horns for the next level of games.

I watched the Ivory Coast v Portugal game and was surprised to see Drogba come in at all with the injury. Unfortunately the best of the play seemed to take place in the stopage time. Havent seen the Brazil game but have heard the result so not too surprised other then the scoreless 1st half. Still lots of games to come!

The Vuvuzela horns are becoming hated by Millions around the World . Not sure if you guys have checked out the links our very proud friend Ales has posted but the Hitler translation is pretty interesting to say the least . the second is the Virtual Vuvuzela for those who will miss the sound during the games . It really don't bother me to much ..... All the best Gebhard

I think the chief of FIFA Sepp Blatter has said he is against a ban,as it would be wrong to go to a country and tell the people they can't celebrate in their traditional way,he has a point,Can't imagine if FIFA came here and laid down a no chanting rule, would ruin the atmos.Although the noise gets a bit loud sometimes I don't think it ruins the games for me,boring defensive draws are much more annoying in my view!

Time to watch and see just how good Spain is. Looking forward to some offensive play. Please, no 0-0 or 1-0 score on this one. Viva Espana! -- Al

Hi Rob,

The chanting and cheering etc is a part of the game of many sports but this horn stuff is beyond the pale. The channting at games is loud at times but it isnt constant becase you have to drink a beer sometimes.;) I know that they are celibrating in their way but it has to be making it really difficult for the teams to communicate and is causing them to play a significantly lower quality game. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Total domination (in my eyes, anyway) by Spain and it still goes 0-0 at the half. I am hoping the 2nd round games open up the scoring some. Spain is great at ball possession, now they just have to score. -- Al

Being a Spain fan is like being a Mets fan: will this ever end? :(

Couldn't agree more with Dave on this one.

Casual soccer fans I know have tuned in, heard than mind bendingly annoying buzzing and tuned out.

This is the national stage for soccer the powers that be are blowing it and casual fans are dropping like flies as a result; whoever is running the show probably had relatives who ran the titantic and the 1978 Red Sox............

What a joke. Unfortunately, I've become used to witnessing these debacles. Can anyone say France 1998? Well, I guess we can focus on 2014.

The biggest surprise so far. But I guess there are no easy teams anymore at this stage. Mr. Hitzfeld, Switzerland's excellent coach, surely had an important hand on this one;).
Guess the Swiss are not just good at banking, cheese and other stereotypes:D.

Paulo

The only strong team that has lived up to their reputation in round 1 is Germany - and I think they are the only ones who have used the new ball in the German League all year. Makes me wonder if the ball is hurting scoring?

Terry

Well as Jimmy Greaves used to say........"It's a funny old game" :D

Jeff

If it goes on like this, some "big names" may not survive the Group stage and move forward to the Round of 16.

..........and it is not Spain that I am worried about.

Agree with you Paulo, but take on consideration that: maybe they played with the worst defensive line I ever see, Australia has not defenders, it was ridiculous.

BTW, it seems that la FURIA have LOST this morning......:eek:

A least this 1-0 game was fun to watch. Spain has a fantastic passing game and with it ball control. They totally dominated the whole game and yet lost 1-0. Sort of like throwing a no-hitter and losing on a freak play. Well, upsets ARE what sports are about. -- Al

This is an excellent point about the casual fans. I am trying to become a fan and have enjoyed some of the games (although a little on the low scoring side for my taste) but that d*** noise (tradition or not) has forced me to watch most of the games on "mute". I am learning little and miss quite a bit without the commentary or fans to clue me in on what is happening. Unfortunate that soccers biggest stage must be silent for me. -- Al

If somehow we make it through, you might want to start to worry as Spain would probably play you and Brasil didn't exactly look that strong. However, that is a long way away.
