Not True,if USA only draw (tie) with Algeria and Slovenija lost against England than England and Slovenija go to the nest round, because we (Slovenija) already have 4 points and USA have 2 and if they tie than they will get one point so they will have 3 points and they will be still one point short.
But if you win and Slovenija draw, than USA and Slovenija go to the next round and England go home,....No matter how you look Slovenija is still at the top of the table with 4 points and Usa,England have 2 and Algeria have one.So Slovenija still have a good chance to go through th enext round.
But anyway USA kill th epassion in us and no one is interested if we go to the next round or not because of an ugly injury from our player Nejc Pecnik.Someone from USA tackled him so bad that he have a broken ankle and maybe his career is finished for ever and he is only 23 i think and he is one of us so we all feel sorry for him,so if someone ask me what i wannt more that Nejc pecnik feel better and countinue his career or that we become world champions i will say that i wannt Nejc Pecnik feel better.
It is just a game, but some of your ignorant players do not know that and they ruin this boy career.

I am really fell sorry for this boy and i wish him fast recovery, and football is no more immportant for us.

Nothing in this world is more immportant than a good health of our people
no matter if they are football players or ordinary people-they are Slovenians!
I am proud of my people and my country!
This post is a might bitter, I think. The US players are not ignorant. They just refused to give up. Slovenia folded under the relentless pressure, simple as that. It is a rough sport and players get hurt. No malice, just the way it goes. The US has the right to feel they got robbed, as indeed they did. No recourse, so play goes on and you have to live with it. I am sorry that the player was hurt, but at 23 years old, I am sure he has a decent shot a recovery and still playing. Like all big time sports events, things go wrong and people feel bad about some results, but the game goes on, so one either gets over the bad stuff, or one goes home. Slovenia still controls it's destiny because of the tie, so they are hardly in a position to cry about it. -- Al

I don't understand the ruling that got the Aussie player sent off. How is it a handball when the ball hit the guy in the chest-shoulder area and then went a bit down the arm, obviously unintentionally? The defender was using his body to do his job. Is it not allowed? And what's with the penalty shot at point, blank range? The goalie is dead meat unless the shooter screws up big time. That penalty shot should be moved back, IMO. Ice hockey has a similar point blank shot but the goalie can at least cover the goal mouth, if not all the resulting holes. The soccer goalie is just a deer in the headlights. -- Al

If you had paid good money to fly to South Africa to watch a game and then had to listen to those horns you would not be very happy.
Time for bed !

Looks like Germany will need a win against Ghana to be sure of advancing. I'm sure they will be up for that one.

As for Netherlands vs Japan, another unbelievably boring game. I tuned out just before the half and apparently missed very little.

Australia did good work preserving the tie. Doesn't help much in terms of advancement but it is a moral victory after playing a man down most of the game. Anyway, good job. -- Al

Al,

That was a handball although inintentional. I thought the pk was proper but not the send off.

As far as where the spot is, that won't be changed. You'd be surprised at how many players screw it up. Wait until the second round and following rounds.

Thanks, Brad. I guess what I was trying to say was what prompted the player being sent off. Just refs judgement, I suppose. As far as messing up a PK, I still don't see how the goalie has a chance. I realize there must be misses but I would think this would be the shooters fault (for whatever reason) more than anything a goalie can do. Even the best goalie would seem to have to rely on guessing right to have a chance. Maybe the PK turns the shooter into a headcase, causing the misses? At any rate, I know there is no chance to change hallowed rules, regardless of the sport. I am learning about soccer and really am enjoying this WC, for the most part. -- Al

I think it's tragic that they stick refs who, although they may have experience, either have no experience at this level or just screw up anyway. This is compounded by the lack of using the technology at their disposal. The head of FIFA doesn't want to use replay because he says he likes the controversy, the discussion, that a ref's screw up brings. Totally illogical because how much more headlines do you need in a WC?

As far as shooter's missing, I think a lot of is psychological. However, occasionally a goalie does guess right. Very rare however. The best goalies do seem to know how to psych out shooters, particularly when you go to penalty kicks in games after the group stage.

I'm afraid career ending injuries are a risk all players take in this game,I don't think the tackle on the Slovenian player was done with intent to break his ankle, its an accident and they happen, sad but true.

Well done the Aussies for getting a draw.

I saw Ales' reference to the broken ankle. I did an internet search this morning and could find only one reference: he's out because of a collision with a US player. Had it been intentional I'm sure the US player would have been shown the door.

Yes, the refs have been flashing cards like they are going out of fashion, they would no doubt have sent him off if it was deliberate.

• Fabio Capello was wheeling his shopping trolley across the supermarket car park when he noticed an old lady struggling with her bags of shopping. He stopped and asked, "Can you manage dear?" To which the old lady replied, "No way. You got yourself into this mess, don't ask me to sort it out!"
• What do you call an Englishman in the knockout stages of the World Cup? A referee.
• What's the difference between Wayne Rooney and Shrek? Shrek can save the day.
• Three hours of football and Robert Green is still England's top scorer.
• I can't believe we only managed a draw against a rubbish team we should easily have beaten. . . . I'm ashamed to call myself Algerian
• What's the difference between the England team and a tea bag? The tea bag stays in the cup longer.
• I'm shocked at Wayne Rooney's outburst after the Algeria game. Who knew he could even string a sentence together!
• What's the difference between a faulty jet engine and Wayne Rooney? The jet engine eventually stops whining.

Easy there Britfarmer. Touchy game this one!

I have to say that the result of USA v Slovenja game will likely drive a large number of potential fans away from the game because of the Terrible officiating. The president of FIFA is a dope if he thinks a blown call by this ref is a good thing for the game by causing discussion. I watched the comentators on the Canadian Channel and on ESPN and they were all baffled by the call that cost the US Team a goal. I dont think this kind of thing is good for the game and like I said before it will only drive fans in the US away.

Still looks like some interesting games to come so who knows how it will turnout. As for the Slovenjian player who was hurt sorry but thats part of the game and if the ref thought it was a bad tackle he would have called it and likley tossed the offending US player. So Ales dont cast stones because your guys played just as hard. There was a lot of fouls being tossed about by your team as well and thats how the game goes.

I'm just asking myself the question that every other England fan is asking.Terry,Rooney,Gerrard,Lampard, how can they play such good football week in and week out in the premiership yet be so ineffective for England?

Maybe the premiership is just not as good as folk think.

Don't know Rob, I think it's more a case of not having enough time to train together before big competitions, also it can’t help not knowing who’s playing until two hours before the game, the England players just didn’t look comfortable the other night.

I agree mate, the two hour thing is absurd, how are they supposed to get into game mode?

As good as they are, maybe they just don't play well together and I still think the strategy and lineup are poor and don't take advantage of the playr's abilities.

Anybody notice that Denmark-Cameroon are playing a pretty wide open game with lots of attacking? May not be "great" soccer, I wouldn't know, but it sure has been entertaining to watch. -- Al
