South Africa 2010 (2 Viewers)

Even though he brought it on himself and I guess he got a little payback, you do have to feel for him and his countrymen a little bit. They were close. On the other hand, yo can say that they were lucky they got four points. An Algerian goalie mistake gave them three points when the should have earned only one and they earned a point against the US when they should have gotten none.

Yes you have to feel for Slovenia,at least they got to the WC and maybe this will be a springboard for more success for them.Good luck for the European cup Ales.

Australia wins but is out. That is a bad break, just too big a hole to dig out of. Well, congrats on the win. Now both US and England have tough games where I imagine both will be underdogs. Would love to see them both win and continue on. Meanwhile, check out the Wimbledon record setting tennis match that has been suspended at 59 (that's right, 59) games all in the fifth set. The fifth set went on for something like 6-7 hours. Unbelievable. -- Al

Looking ahead, the winner of the US Ghana match will play the winner of the Uruguay South Korea match in the quarter. My prediction is that will be the US v Uruguay, which would be a terrific match.

Just got home from a long day at work, and noticed that Ales hasn't posted much today:):) I take it his warriors didn't win:) sorry Ales, if you cant' take the heat don't come into the kitchen, but hey 4 yrs. go by pretty fast:)...Sammy

Thanks for the dreamland dig:rolleyes:

We will have to disagree then mate, sorry but who on earth chose those for a panel????.Lineker and Shearer were much better Strikers than any of those guys.Lineker and co have laid into England as everyone else has following the two openers,in fact they had to back track today because they'd been too harsh on them.So I think you are totally wrong there.

You surely saw we were all over them today,it may have only been Slovenia but the improvement was clear. It has been universally welcomed over here today.Well we are all happy today anyway,no we won't win the cup but we won today and won well.

Rob

Yo Rob, over here besides the three greats mentioned on the panel, we also have, Liam Brady (world class) Ozzie Ardiles (world class) Didi Herman (World class) all say the same England are a shambles. But very pleased with we have the Germans to play, we can play against Germany, what we cannot do is play against African or South American teams. Not making excuses have you noticed how bad all the English and British foreign players have played IE: Anelka, Patrick Evera, Vidic, they reckon with the English league being so long, plus the Champions league, two cup competitions, plus qualifying for the world cup, they end up playing nearly 70 matches, then the season finishes in May and its three friendly's warm up for the world cup and straight into the world cup in June and they are Knackered after so much travelling and games. One English based player has stood out for me from one of the smaller Premier teams Wigan, Kevin Prince Boateng of Ghana, he has played his socks off. Think he will be number one target for a big Transfer to one of the top teams. (you heard it here first);) lol.
BTW forgot to mention, the other three greats on the panel, Jonnie Giles, Ronnie Whelan, Graham Souness, were all great midfielders, ask Lineker & Shearer how many European Cup winners medals they have. Not knocking them they were great players, but you cannot knock the Irish panel they were all class players, seen them all play I went to Liverpool & Everton for 30 years.
Bernard.

Well done USA and England.

Go New Zealand !!!!

Thanks Brett

Now we have my nations most dreaded fixture, England v Germany, the streets will be empty, the pubs will be full and 60million people chewing their fingernails with nerves.......why can't we just go straight through to the final and play Greece;)

Rob

Yo Rob its the best draw England could hope for, as I said we can play the Germans, but they do seem fitter than the England team, should be a good game. As for playing Greece in the final dont think FIFA would like that seen as Greece have gone home lol:D:D.

Rob

the higher chance to win the game has England (did i say that?). But England must win bevor the Penalty shootout...... ;) And the penalty shootout means for me.....more grey hairs..............:(

But I must think positive.....how said Lineker? „Football is a simple game: 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans win.“ :D

First: USA very well done, you have qualified 1st from your group even if you can complain about wrongly disallowed US goals against Slovenia and Algeria:eek:. Great performance. Now a tough job against Ghana, it's «kill, kill» time, like Scolari used to say.

Second: England, finally, that's more like it, at last I saw some speed, something like Premier League football, good performance. Only downside: England should really have buried the chances they had to kill the game, score should have been 2 or 3 nil, it would have spared them a nervy finish. If you don't score those chances you always run the risk of suffering a goal coming out of nowhere and losing:eek:...Now against Germany, surely a very tough game for both, Ghana surely would have been less difficult... Go England!

Yo Paulo, dont underestimate Ghana, glad England dont have them, they have terrific pace, would have been to much for England and they are very organized, it took Brazil all they had to beat them in the last world cup, they could be a surprise team.
Bernard.

I did not see anything special on the Germans sides or on the English side, actually from no team at all. So far it was the weakest first round since 1978 .

Well at least if we lose Sammy I can cheer myself up with my new purchases;)

Denmark in big trouble. That second goal by Japan was a beaut. Little bit surprised that the Italians went out, waiting too long to wake up. Sorry the Kiwis went out. They're in the same position the US was almost in, 3 ties and going home. That bites, but all they needed was the one goal. Still, a valiant effort. -- Al

Yes two great free kicks from the Japenese team,Denmark in big trouble.

Well done New Zealand and Australia come to think of it,Anzac football is here!

Franz Beckenbauer was quick off the mark to be critical of England's performance after their first game in the Groups.

Perhaps, Fabio Capello is right.....Germany may be wary of England.
