Got the flag on the car window already! As you say we are loud and proud today and let's ignore some of the recent racism shown to our country.

Have a great day guys, sun is shining and all is Red and White!

Rob

Today I saw St Georges flag fluttering from a mast, It waved in recognition to the glories of the past, It beckoned to the future and seemed to say out loud, If you be an Englishman look up, be proud, Come what may let men still say, This is England, My England, Happy St Georges day!

And what is very encouraging Mitch is that this forum is full of some of the nicest people you could wish to meet, from the US, Australia, South Africa, Belgium, and many other countries to numerous to mention, they are the good and decent people whilst the people with all the xenophobia are few and far between.

Ironic with all our jokes about our weather that St Georges day should be the hottest of the year so far!

Have a great one Mitch!

Rob

You too mate!

To all the fellow British forum members.
A Happy St. George's Day !!!

Just a gentle reminder folks - Saint George is the Patron saint of England - not Britain. It is a little confusing - I grant you - but we in the "United Kingdom" are really four Nations - who agreed some while ago, to live under one roof - not altogether comfortably - all of the time. We are all British - but have our own Saints - and saints Days.

We Welsh folks have Dewi Sant ( St. David).
Irish folks have Saint Patrick,
Scots have Saint Andrew,

But thanks for including us Celts in your thoughts - anyway, johnnybach

It's funny really how only St. Patricks day has taken off as a worldwide celebratory day. On S. Paddy's day people asked me why I wasn't celebrating it and I replied because I am not Irish. They said well that doesn't matter, any excuse to drink. I replied with will you be celebrating St. Georges day with a few drinks? Who is that they asked, I just shook my head :(

Should have known better, guys :redface2:
I knew something wasn't right, but that was after it was all said and done.
Anyway, hope you had a great holiday :smile2:

Hey Konrad - don't beat yourself up over it - us "heathens" are pretty used to it. I was doing a bit of gardening the other day, and some British people, clearly on holiday, rode bicycles past my gate - chatting away in English. One young lad with them smiled at me - and risked a quick "Bonjour!" I replied "Good Morning - nice day" in English.

Mumma - who was amongst them stopped and said " Oh! your'e English - what part of England do you come from?" I replied "The Welsh part - Glamorgan!" We all had a bit of a laugh over that.

Whoops! - but a very common mistake, often made by quite a few English folks.

By the way - The Welsh Language (one of the oldest European languages), name for England is "Lloegr" ( I won't attempt to explain how we pronounce it!) This word means in English, "The Lost Lands".

We call it that - as Britain was virtually all Celtic - before the new kids on the block arrived. We're pretty used to them by now though, and I quite like a few of the Angles (from which name Angle-land - now England came),Saxons, Normans and all the rest of them now. No big deal - it can be confusing - just wanted to set the record right as regards our various Saints. johnnybach

Thanks again Konrad, I and I'm sure my English friends took your well wishes exactly as you meant it.

It was not the Scots day or the Welsh day or the Irish day but yesterday it was ours. I want to thank all of you who showed THE CONSIDERATION AND GOOD MANNERS to pass on your wishes, personal agendas of some aside the vast majority of folk on here are well educated.

All the best

Rob
