Just watched the new Stargate movie and thought it was pretty good.I loved the series and thought it was great how they tied science fiction to Egyptian mythology.I bring this up on this forum as I think they show the honor of today's men and women in our armed forces. If you watch the movie check out the special feature where they went to the Arctic to shoot scenes for the movie.I use to look foward to Fridays as it was end of the work week, pay day and STARGATE!Long live Col. Jack O'Neill!

Yo Trooper look forward to seeing it, my favourite hour when its on, also think Stargate Atlantis took it a step futher.
Bernard.

I love the series - have since in the first episode they refer to how they "MacGyvered" the Stargate - an homoage to the character previously played by our hero Colonel Jack O'Neal! I definitely will have to see the movie!:cool:

I like Stargate Atlantis too but there is something special about the first show.I loved the original movie too but the series took it much further.

I loved and own the original movie; there was something special with Russel and Spader and Roland Emmerich. Mili Avital was rather excellent as well. Never have been able to get into SG-1. Relatively I have found the acting stilted and uninspired. In particular, Amanda Tapping just does not work for me. I may try again one day and the movie may be a good start.

Its a fun series that dosen't take itself too seriously, while in colorado springs last year , I was half hoping to get a look at the entrance to the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, that they show in Stargate...apparently they used to give tours but since 9/11 ..no more:(

Excellent stuff! My wife and I are big fans of SG and have all the boxed sets of DVD's, looking forward to seeing this.

Thanks for the info.

Jeff

The thing that makes a good series is the characters and how they interact with one another. This series definitely had the chemistry.(explains why it lasted 10 years). The humor was often subtle but good.

My wife (she's as big a fan as me) and I have the whole series on DVD.

Interesting, I certainly look for those qualities in the very few series I enjoy. Never saw that in SG-1, again maybe it was the Tapping character that put me off; I did like the other all right, perhaps I will try it again. One current SF series that has this chemistry is Eureka. I just started through Netflex and it is a quirky little gem. The first season is the weakest but still fun and important to set the stage. The character interaction just keeps getting better.

Longevity itself is no measure IMHO however, it is all numbers and scheduling decisions. There are some great series like Firefly which were never really given a chance while others like Loveboat, Baywatch, Roseanne, Laverne and Shirely (I could go on), oh well:rolleyes: Let's just say show like those are why I generally avoid television.

I have the first Stargate movie and series 1 thru 10 and would rate Stargate as the best Sci Fi series on tv. Personally I reckon the series dropped off towards the end and I have never been really into the Atlantis series.

Firefly would be in my better than expected list as initially I didn't have much expectation for a series that featured six-gun slinging space jocks. To me it had a similar gritty feel to the old British Sci Fi series Blake's Seven, another of my favs.

Stargate also had a plentiful supply of great villians throughout the series , egyptian gods, replicators, and the oris:cool:
Deep Space Nine was another show with some half-decent 'villians'..Dominion Jem Hadar troops were the coolest thing imo since star wars stormtroopers:cool::)

Hathor was half decent, as was Sharai (Daniels wife) ;)

I am a big fan of Stargate, and It is a great Sci-Fi series with Jack, Daniel, Sam, and Teal'c.

I miss babylon Five. Like Stargate. been watching it on Sci Fi Channel. B-5 got a little weird though. Miss STNG and DS9

Before the new Battlestar galactica , its was hard to beat the earlier seasons of Babylon 5. Great action scenes and G'Kar and Londo were a great double act:cool:

I love Babylon 5; I have the full set and the movies. It did get a trifle wierd after Z'ha'dum but I actually liked Season 4 the most. Season 1 was Ok but it really picked up when Sheridan came on board. Ivanova was the best.;)

Good thing I have a big screen. I am going to need it for all the Babylon and Stargate. Going to wait for the Continuum movie to make it to Netflix. Since Netflix I hardly ever buy DVDs anymore:):)

I here that, Netflix is great although you get the occassional skipping or unplayable disk from ham handling by the techno challenged (or uncaring) so I still buy my favorites like B5.;)

I really liked the Stargate series, Atlantis too. But, have you guys noticed the serious lack of Aliens??? They really get away with a lot in those series.

I thought the movie had a lot of potential and I went to high school with the kid who befriended the historian guy. He also showed up later on in the tv series. Problem with the movie is that they added that little Hollywood love story which pretty m uch killed it for me. Like I said, it had so much potential.

Atlantis is also lacking in aliens and a fair amount of action too. At some point, I fully expect to see an action packed episode revolving around the changing of a light bulb. That's what a lot of series has been amounting to over the years.

One thing Star Trek had over these franchises was aliens - lots of aliens and and an expalnation why every planet spoke fluent American English.

DR Who is still the best series for aliens that actually look alien.
