Statues and Monuments (3 Viewers)

Here is the recently built memorial to our RAF Bomber Command heroes who took the battle to the heart of Nazi Germany.

I would think (memory is a little foggy as it's been nine years since I've been there) that the IWM must have some great ones.

Viscount Garnet Wolseley at Horse Guards Parade. The "Model of a Modern Major General". I do think more people would recognise him if he'd been depicted in colonial uniform though.

The bloke on him isn't a bad sculpt either Martin - one of yours?? :D

How do you like this one then? Another favourite of mine - in Corwen, Denbeighshire. A lively looking steed - whilst the plinth tells you who it is - the last Native born Prince of Wales. (Note the flag on the corner shop^&grin No expense spared! ) jb:cool:

This thread hasn't been updated in awhile so I thought I'd bring it up for air. I'm sure there are some members who might have photos to post.

Civil War monument in Danbury, Connecticut. In 2013 I was on my way to pick up my son when I saw this statue and stopped to take a few photos.

I did some research and this statue is called the Soldiers Monument. It was dedicated in 1880 to honor local Civil War heroes.

The story behind the Vietnam Memorial is a fascinating read if anyone has time.

As luck would have it, there are enough here to offend somebody.(except,of course, the
Islamic painted graffiti on ANY monument/memorial).

Just found this thread and immediately had the urge to post a picture from a German perspective. Cannot come up with a good military one for WWII. Cannot come up with a good one for WWI either.

Ok. Let's do France. Nothing. Cannot come up with a good Napoleon memorial in Paris either. Can someone help?

I guess I will just have to enjoy what others are posting.

I'd certainly like to see something from a German perspective, maybe something from the War of 1870.

There's his tomb:

Does the statue work as a memorial?

At the left of this photo was a Vietnam vet sobbing at the "wall". As he walked along the wall, he dragged his hand on the wall, touching the names of the fallen soldiers with tears in his eyes. When he neared us, he asked us to take a picture of him in front of the wall. DSCN5301-640.jpgIt was very moving.
