Still painting! (1 Viewer)

Latest figure I have finished is this New Hope Designs Corporal No.6 Commando, 1944. Have experimented with milliput on the base to simulate grass. I decided a matt finish would look best for this figure. The facial details on this casting are nicely done.

Still working on a Sarum Studios Commando figure to go with this one. Any tips on painting a denison smock?

Enjoy christmas!

I did a denison a while back and found it best to dry brush the pattern - gives it a somewhat faded look that's quite realistic.

I think you may be right there. In most images I have seen they seem very faded. There are a few painting guides around on the net, however most are for wargames figures and they seem on the dark side, which suits the smaller figures. So drybrushing with the lighter khaki colours may do the trick.

Just finishing off the old Esci/Ertl British camp rest area.

Have painted them as Gordon Highlanders and mounted on thin bases.

A nice old kit with some different poses!

Have been painting faces as per Michigan Toy Soldier's Britains master clip on YouTube. I have found this tutorial very useful.

Keep painting.

Hi Scott - nice little scene from "The Blue Grass Boys". I always liked that leather Jerkin - I used to have one myself when I was a Despatch Rider for a while. We only had battledress for a short while though - but I kept the jerkin for a few years longer - and then had to hand it back into stores eventually. Very comfortable garment. I can also remember often eating compo stew out of a mess tin from Field Kitchens - very much as your guys are doing. As to the Field Postie - we used to ask wives to send us a "Sports Page" - with footie, rugby or cricket news on. Then if some guy didn't have any letter - the cry would go up "Anyone got a Sports Page for Lofty" - and we would hand over the page to Lofty - or whoever - for him to read. Your nice little scene brought those memories back very vividly. Nicely done! johnnybach:)

It's always nice to see figures painted by other forum members, these look good. :smile2:

Thanks John and Jeff.

If I don't post them on the forum then they just sit in the cabinet.

Funny you should mention Despatch riders John. I made the bases on these thin with later use in a diorama in mind. I'm not sure where to start but think that these figures would go well with this set-

I especially like the piper sitting down. I have never seen a figure like that. Nice work and keep on painting. I will try to show some shots of a 90 mm Salah al dinh figure I am working on.

Yes - do so agree - let's all have a look at them.

DR's - That's the bike - mind you that one has less coats of paint on it than the ones we had! Wot a monster that thing was! By the time I rode one though - we didn't have Johdpurs - just BD. Later on - when the bikes just got worn out - we had Austin Champs. Lovely vehicle - Rolls Royce engines and De-Dion- Suspensions. Cost a bomb - but lovely to drive. They renamed us too. "Signals Despatch Service". We also lost the white over blue arm bands by the time I was in (1961-ish). You could make it work for (say) 1950-ish?

Call it "Don-R asking for directions from a group of lads having a cuppa on Exercise" - or something like that. We used to call it the "Weatherfugarewe? Question!"

Nice scene you could do there with those. Very true to life - I remember it well - ---well -- almost well!:D Long time ago now.:D jb

Sometimes I think painting a figure is like playing sport- you have your good days and your bad!

I have been working on an Alpine Miniatures Russian officer- a resin figure for a change. I have found this figure difficult to paint even though the details on these 1/35 figures is amazing. Anyway I'll keep on with it- I need to build some grass into the base with milliput.

Here is the progress so far. I can feel a return to glossies coming on.

Scott..

A very nice figure and very well painted

Have been working away on some Dragon 1/35 figures lately but starting to get frustrated with them (too many parts!). I picked this figure up recently; disassembled and paint stripped off it. It is a Doughboy in a casual pose and was made by Monarch Miniatures (?). I'm not sure how old it is, but would guess 1980's. It is nicely sculpted, although the tunic pockets look a little big.

I assembled and primed it today and will finish the figure as a glossy.

Finished the Doughboy, painted as a sergeant of the 30th Division.

I used Vallejo 70804 Beige Red as the base skin colour for this figure and think it may be a bit too pinkish. Another for the collection anyway!

Nicely done, Scott!

Monarch is still in business, by the way, but he does not use the Internet. All of his business is still strictly through mail order and at shows. But it's worth the wait for the variety of his catalog.

Prost!

Thanks Brad. Do you know if he has many First World War and Victorian era figures in his catalogue?

Scott , I have enjoyed going through the figures you have done. I have found the New Hope figures here and there. Another one is the Series 77? Been enjoying painting them as I find them at shows around the US. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanks KV. I enjoy posting the images of my figures and seeing other treefroggers post their work as well. Its a good way to learn and improve.

Will post a few more New Hope and Rose figures soon. Currently working on some Dragon Fallschirmajager figures- still enjoy painting 1/35 as well (old habits die hard).

Trying to avoid being one of those modellers with boxes of unmade kits and having a break from white metal glossies. Am working on some Dragon 1/35 Fallschirmjager in Crete and trying out Tamiya fine primer which seems to work a treat on plastic figures. Also made rifle/machine gun slings from insulation tape again which bonds well.

Stocking up on some vallejo russian uniform and german field grey for the smocks and pants. Plenty of painting to follow.
