Hi, I am about to attempt my first dio and was wondering what kind material I should use for creating a small stream through the middle of the dio, I know that there is stuff that you can boil and then pour into a channel in the base of my dio; but am not familiar with names, any help would be greatly appreciated.

scenic water is very good but, you can also use a craft product called Glossy accents by a US company called Ranger crafts as a good substitute.

Scenic water do a range of products where you can create white water effects waterfalls etc

They are what I use ask at train model shops there is a cheaper alternative in the UK from a US company but, the name slips me at the moment its supposed to be good
Hope this helps

Good Evening Private
Since this is your first diorama, Do not become too ambitious.
Begin modestly, Take Notes and Pictures as you make progress.
Make a list of all the items you want to include.
Good Luck with your water.

The Magic Water is really easy to work with and gives a nice result. Also, unlike other products, there is no requirement for heating anything up. I'd use this for water features. You can order it from TF and have it in the mail in a couple of days.

Thank you for all the replies, i am going to order TF's magic water. On a side note, If i cooked sugar and then put food coloring in, would that have the same effect? Because it seems like that would work, although I don't know the effect it might have on my base.

You can certainly try it although it is a food substance and may attract bugs vermin etc.... Also sugar is temperamental and quickly you can end up with a nasty stodge of crystallized sugar in your pan that you cannot bring back. And sugar gets very very hot in a liquid state.

I would suggest the magic water much safer in my opinion.

Yes, I advise against using sugar. As Scott pointed out, you can burn it too easily, and yourself in the process.

Prost!
