Very nice Martyn! Would you happen to know about how many soldiers formed a square and where the artillery or gatling guns were situated (corner of the square or in the interior). Any help appreciated. Thanks. Lawrence

Many thanks Larry, glad you like the square :salute::

Here is a diagram of the square at Ulundi in the Zulu War, I have circled the Gatling guns, 7-pounder and 9-pounder guns

I guess there was no definitive number of soldiers to form a square, it would depend on the number of soldiers the commanding officer had available. I've been having a look through my copies of ILN 1884 and 1885 to see if I can find a sketch of a square in the Sudan but nothing yet

Cheers

Thanks for that diagram Martyn, however I am not looking forward to the expense of recreating this using WB figures {sm2}{sm3}{sm4}

Thanks Scott, you're quite right about the expense{eek3}

I hope to do something along the lines of this square but for Gingindlovu (Anglo Zulu War), maybe not quite as many soldiers as actually took part but Len Taylor did a special order for me back in the 1990's of each of the British Regiments ^&grin.

Cheers

Thanks for the diagram Martyn. Please let me know if you find anything for the Sudan. All the best, Lawrence

I used to be a Trophy collector with some 200 figures at one time. In those days you could buy a set of 6 for 89$ - 99$. Now 2 -3 figures run that..Michael

Happy days Michael:cool:

The boxed sets of 6 figures I had painted as regiments at Gingindlovu cost me £39 a set

Cheers

I don't collect Little Legion but your display truly impressed. The figures look great.
