Sudan? (2 Viewers)

? Do we have any doubt that Randy's in favor of a matte series for the SUDAN CAMPAIGN:D:D:D

No doubt about it, and clearly in line with his previously demonstrated good sense and taste when it comes to toy soldiers. I want them too by the way....

I agree with Dave and Randy.
I would like to see a matt Sudan series in the same manner of the AZW series.
One of sustained releases over the years allowing one to build up a comprehensive diorama.
The AZW series is fantastic as is the Waterloo series.
So here is hoping.

Just thought of this idea  How about a RHA team say 1000 pieces. 500 for AZW 500 for the Sudan ? :D

well i already make a space for my ZULUS!!!! but it sure will be nice to add some Sudans too.
It is a nice table around 1mx1m and i will make a small diorama with a britain soldiers and a lot of ZULUS so that the visitor can see the battle power is on the Zulu side, but iw ill buy some walls and everything so that my british army well feel comfortable. It does not matter that this is a Rourkes drift diorama it could be just one battle in South Africa between the british and Zulus.
I just wonder if it will be look crazy if i mix the soldiers together(british from Zulu and Sudan Period) and Zulus and Sudans?
Because i will go for a battle not for a historical acuracy but still i have this funny feeling that this will not be ok?
What do you think?
But still just a Rourke s drift diorama can be boring,i just wannt to spice it up a little. What are your suggestions?

As for your Zulu War display notion, I might suggest creating more of a(n) Isandlwana vignette. This would not require any walls or buildings, though you could incorporate a wagon or some tents in among your 24th Foot troops and then surround them with a heaving mass of Zulus. I would not concern yourself with mixing Sudan related figures in to this scene for a number of reasons. It would be glaringly inaccurate, and perhaps more importantly these figures do not yet exist (except in our imaginations ). There are certain to be a steady stream of new AZW figures coming in the forseeable future so you should be able to focus on that for now. My opinions only of course.........:)

I hope you are right, Jeff. Maybe this will be your reward at the December show for being so patient. (It's amazing how long ago you started this thread after all). :)

well i am more of a fan for Rourske drift diorama than Islandawad, because i like this walls with bags and everything.
And i will get my free colector figure which is wounded soldier so i need to put him there.
But i will not make Rourke's Drift but more of attacking on some farm or something.Like my own battle.Like imagine one little army of 20-30 british man get cut off from Islandawad and they find a shelter in some farm or something and they have like 15 minutes to put some bags and everything they get their hands on to make a shelter from a very big number of Zulus. My own kind of Rourke drift, without hospital and stuff.
Well i didnt decide it yet, first i need to buy the figures than i will play.
Maybe some photos of your dioramas so that i can get some ideas?

Ales have a look through the Britains Zulu War thread. Lots of great ideas there !!! And at the end of the day they are your soldiers so you can display them how you want. Whether it happened or not it doesn't matter as long as you are having fun and enjoying yourself. Go for it !!!

Yes this is true, good point britfarmer.Well,i will check it out, maybe i "steal" some ideas:D:D

Sounds good to me. I'd oblige you with some photos, but I'm afraid I've only recently re-invested in a couple of these sets (had to get the "closing stages of Isandlwana" set before it completely vanished for example), and I've been away from home for a couple of months so I cannot actually lay my hands on any of my stuff at the mo. so, sorry.....

well do not worry, thanks for a nice geste and all....

As someone who, in the short space of a year, collected the entire WB Zulu range, I think I would be a good target customer for a Sudan range.

The Zulu range was attractive to me because when I started collecting just about all the figures were readily available, there was a good mix of Brits and Zulus in combat poses, and there were new figures in the pipeline. (Oh, and the figures are incredibly well sculpted and told a "story" when put together).

To start collecting Sudan, or NWF etc. I would need to see a commitment to an actual range, not just a figure here or there in the Redcoat Line. Combat poses and enemies are a must.

The limited edition MKL figures are too expensive for me as an entry point when I'm not sure whether there will be more coming. So if it's a test, I'm one potential customer that it's not working for.

Regardless, I very much hope that WB will offer other Matte Victorian ranges that live up to the great work they've done with the Zulus.

I think that hits the nail on the head for me also :).

I'll echo the others sentiments and agree with your comments 100% :)

I am also hoping for a sustained comprehensive Sudan series from WB.
Matt would probably be best. I base this on the success of the AZW series in matt.

Well here we are with just over two weeks to go untill the London show! :)

What do we think/hope for? Perhaps a few painted masters or undercoated prototypes just to get the seasonal juices flowing?

Here's hoping......;)
