Tank Barrel problems......... (1 Viewer)

Have you had this problem and on how many tanks

As I thought, it's widespread and I actually thought it was normal to have models with barrels that stay up. I can't understand how some people with large collections like Rob, Mitch and Howard can have none with barrel droop. Unless they are sneaking in to the warehouse at night, inspecting the models, selecting perfect ones for themselves and putting the imperfect ones back for the rest of us to buy. {eek3} ^&grin

I am actually diss---enchanted right now myself. I have about ten or so that the market is going to feel the squeeze on tomorrow. Like everyone says just return them to your great dealer.

No Mr. Nice guy.

Also...How can the other guys have no problems like this.....Let us start a thread on that.

I actually checked mine last week,all brands bought......All were PERFECT ! What are you doing with yours Ludwig ? Selling them as you mentioned "The Market" ???

What I meant to say was I thought it was normal to have tanks with loose barrels until this thread which several people with large collections have had perfect tanks - while others have several tanks with the flaw. It flies in the face of basic statistics and probability to have a distribution like that.

Right you are Terry! My count stands at three. Two were sent back/exchanged and one was a K&C modified Jagdpanther which I kept.

I am not sure if this is still the way they do this now but, I know a few that have this system. The springs push in as I explained allowing the bar to go through the holes the spring tension holds the gun barral in place due to the pressure it exerts keeping it stable and, not allowing the droop.

On this specific AFV the springs were slightly to long causing enourmous pressure which, resulted in the side of the mantlet attached to the turret to snap around the hole where the bar would go through. I had to shorten the springs slightly and then glue back the snapped piece. It works fine and the pressure is correct and keeps the barral in position.

Hope this helps as the pictures show easier what I was trying to explain earlier. Apologies for the first picture cannot take pictures very well

Thank for the photos Mitch but for the money there charging think they should come mint as I never had a problem when i was a kid with my corgi and dinky tanks with barrel problems or my £ 30.00 fov tanks :rolleyes2:

Neat pics you have posted here. I would never have thought 2 internal springs of this size would be in there !!!
 
Still not convinced its a generic problem. the poll results don't really show much apart from that some have had the issue whilst some have not. Thats been mentioned here quite surprised a Kings X member telling an open forum that they have issues with stock seems the best way to advertise the brand but, I suppose its honest!!! Might be collecting welfare by friday but, at least its honest.

The barrel of my classic Sherman can move freely in all directions; is that how it's supposed to be?

The barrel shouldn't move from side to side - the turret rotation does that. The barrel should elevate up and down and stay in an elevated position when left there and not just drop to the bottom of it's movement.

Absolutely agree. Leave it alone. As Terry says it takes a lot of patience and skill to press out the little rod without breaking the ears off. I would return it or if not able to, just wedge something underneath it like most of us have done.

No problem. Trying to re-glue the poly-stone with metal pieces is no fun. Then you need to paint to match. I personally would only consider it if I was going to like say....winterize or change the color anyway.

I have to make a public confession here! :redface2: Terry just reminded me that I DID INDEED have an issue with a Tank! Some years back on studying one of my Figarti Sherman's the paint on the front mud guard had peeled right off, so I primed it and painted it with as near a green as I had and it looks just fine. There I've joined the ranks of those who've had problems, a bit like when the Queen Mother said ' Now I can look the East end in the face' after Buck Palace was bombed!{eek3}^&grin:wink2:

OH MY GOD!!!!!.....OMG.......OMG.....after fifteen minutes of fainting and lying on the floor in veritable disbelief.....I crawled up from the floor and back to my computer......you have got to be shoveling me......MARK THE FROLICKING CALENDAR.....Rob had a problem!

Not so fast Ludwig. :wink2:^&grin It was a flaking paint problem - not a barrel problem. So Rob's claim that his barrels can rise to the occasion is still in play. However, one Aussie who claimed no problems on his vast collection had to admit that the barrels failed on one of his M3 Grants. So his vote should be corrected from no to yes.
