Hi guys,

As I am sure many of us do regularily, I am questioning which ranges I should be collecting and I am contemplating collecting just K&C WWII tanks (with the odd supporting soldier at their side) from all theatres of the conflict. There is clearly no shortage of tanks to buy and even the retired ones seem to pop up on ebay fairly often.

I know collecting is all about personal preference and what makes one happy, but I just wondered if any other collector has done this (I would stretch to tank destroyers/tracked artillery too) and if they had any comments? Any general comments of encouragement or dissuasion would be appreciated too.

Cheers, Chris

Hey Chris (feel like I am talking to myself, which I am prone to do {sm4})

There is a healthy representation of individuals who do nothing more than collect AFVs. you won't find yourself alone.

Chris i first bought WS059 Jagdpanther and thought the same thing (Well only German armour) now i collect everything German and some allied stuff so good luck with it mate,hope you have more discipline than i have..................{sm4}

Well, you could do worse than the K&C tanks. They can be expensive, but they are nice to look at.

I tend to focus on the US stuff, with a little British and some German thrown in for fun. As I have gotten older I realized that I can't have all of them, so I focus on my main area of interest - the US forces in Europe in 1944-45. I also tend to get later "improved" versions of some models. For instance, when I started collecting I was able to get the early releases of the Sherman (DD27), the Priest, the WC 54 ambulance and the M24 Chaffee. There have been new, nicer models with better details of all of these so I sold the old and bought the new. That's just the way I handle my collection.

Thanks guys.

That's the trick huh, discipline!!! I think that word got pushed out of my brain when I bought my first K&C model!

I appreciate it could be expensive but given that I am a collector with only 1 year in, I am finding most of the stuff I want is retired anyway and a 4-man set goes for around the same prices as most tanks on ebay (not the new Tigers etc I know).

I have managed to collect in the last year pretty much every retired/currentBritish D-day/Normandy figure and afv so maybe I will keep those as the spine of my collection then make the rest of the collection various afv's?

I guess this thought process is just part of the fun of being a K&C collector!

Chris

My advice if you are trying to stick to one series or theme is whatever the first one to come to mind is ?????? theres is your answer. I prefer to stay with the WWII European Theater as a whole !!
Makes things easier that way {sm3} {sm2}

Its a good idea Chris. You could have an example of most of the well known Tanks of WW2 from all theaters of the conflict. K&C have done a great job in spreading all the famous AFV's right across their WW2 ranges and this would make your collecting both interesting and easier. If I may make one suggestion, try and get your hands on one of the two Stugs that Andy released, one from the Afrika Corp and one from Fields of Battle these really are excellent representations of this famous fighting machine and well worth having, or do what I did mate and get both!:wink2:^&cool

That's what I am thinking, a good spread of all the different theatres. I am going to keep British D-Day and RAF as my main interests and add afv's around them. Yes, the Stugs look great, one of each would do nicely! it's funny also that the other post came up about WS077 'Panzer Meyer's Command Halftrack' as I have found it at a great price and think i will add that to the collection early!

Cheers Rob.

PS. Got the Hurricane...what a beauty!!! However, I don't mind admitting I almost cried, was placing it on a shelf and clipped the very tip of the wing against my wall shaving off a tiny fleck of paint but not damaging the shape of the wing. Can you or anyone suggest what paint either by Humbrol or another best matches the dark green on the Hurricane??? I live no-where near a model/paint shop so I have to find a colour online (which is never a true representation of the colour, order it, then wait 2 weeks for it to arrive only to find it's not the right green. ANY HELP PLEASE???

I think there were more Stugs than just two: FOB038.....BBA008....WS047...AK038....WS069...........Best, Tom

Sorry to hear that Chris, I'm no painting expert but I know Vallejo do a superb range of paints, they are bound to have a colour that will do the trick, other than that hopefully there will be someone that can give you an exact match as there are some great painters here on the forum.

I thought that I heard that K&C uses Tamyia paints. ??^&confuse??

Tamiya makes some of the better paints for the modeling hobby. It shouldn't be to hard to fix. Get a green that matches as close as possible to the green on the wing, then mix tiny drop of black to darken or a drop of white to lighten. You can test each color mix on a piece of plastic and compare against the actual color.

I am pretty confident that after a few tries youcan get it to match perfectly.
Good Luck

Thing is whether Tamiya, humbrol, revell Vallejo etc they all have the colour that will be required to do the job.

I primarily ise Vallejo paints and have done many touch ups repaints and they would be my recomendation before Tamiya

Thanks chaps, I will have her looking good-as-new in no time!

I believe K&C use Vallejo paints. Not sure of the exact colour for the Hurricane though....

Staying disciplined is hard, for me I started with Bulge then went on a tour into Arnham and Afrika. I've gotten back into just the Bulge and have sold off a good deal of my out of theme items so I've been able to fund the Bulge even more!
