Hi Guys,
This year, 2018, marks the 50th Anniversary of the TET OFFENSIVE of 1968... the major turning point of the Vietnam War.
2018 is also the 20th Anniversary of KING & COUNTRY’s own first venture into the Vietnam War that originally featured soldiers, marines, fighting vehicles, helicopters and even... a complete ‘Firebase’ model!
Back in 1998 K&C focused then on the war in the jungle and countryside... This time we’re moving into the urban cities and towns of South Vietnam that were targeted by the NVA (North Vietnamese Army) and the VC (Viet Cong) during their offensive at TET, the Lunar New Year.
The plan, hatched in Hanoi, was to attack ALL important cities, towns and military bases across South Vietnam simultaneously. The Communists believed that their attack would encourage a popular uprising among the people against the U.S. and the Government in Saigon and together they would end the war victoriously... and quickly.
KING & COUNTRY’s own plan is to ‘zero in’ on the longest and bloodiest struggle of the TET OFFENSIVE... The Battle of Hue, (the old imperial capital) and the U.S. Marines who played such an important part in the city’s recapture.
At this year’s TEXAS TOY SOLDIER SHOW, Saturday & Sunday, 26 & 27 May (Memorial Day Weekend) our central theme will be “TET ’68... The Battle That Changed The War.”
Throughout the show we will be launching our latest U.S. Marines in Combat together with previewing some of the unusual fighting vehicles the Marines used to retake the city.
I’m also happy to report the return of our “SATURDAY NIGHT SYMPOSIUM” with some Special Guests of Honor... among them Capt. Raymond Lau.
Ray, a former U.S.M.C. officer was in Hue itself when TET erupted! Cut off behind enemy lines he, with four other American advisers, spent eight perilous days fighting their way out before rejoining friendly forces. His story is unique and provides another viewpoint of the Battle of Hue at that time... and well worth hearing.
After completing his ‘hitch’ in the Corps Ray went on to join the Central Intelligence Agency and worked in other parts of Indochina before retiring in 2000.
Obviously, there’s a lot more I will be telling and showing you in the days and weeks before the Show... So, watch this space!
All the best and happy collecting!
Andy.
