THe 2020 Chicago Toy Soldier Show as been canceled/rescheduled (1 Viewer)

I've not long returned from a pathology collection unit for some blood tests. No one was wearing a mask including the nurse that did the stabbing. Funny thing was there wasn't the usual take a number system, apparently that could transfer the virus easier. You just made sure you kept your distance using the spaced seating and ensued you remembered your turn. That system worked ok in that situation but I couldn't see potential toy soldier buyers taking turns like that, there'd be mayhem, every collector for himself {sm4}

No it’s called being smart. We are not out of the woods with this virus yet. Kinda like having a heart transplant and expecting to run the NY marathon a week later. Not smart. A little fear is better than being dead or carrying it on to a family member or friend.
 
I am not a “shut the world down” kind of guy, but when the attendees are probably 65% over 70 all in one room - seems like a good cancellation.

This isn’t a heart transplant! If so, you’re absolutely right!

Absent of having recovered from a heart condition or suffering from 1 or 2 pre-existing conditions (e.g. high blood pressure, over 65, diabetes, compromised immune systems, etc.). Let’s get real, people following in these categories should take precautions. I would, wouldn’t you?

The rest of us can wear masks (mostly to make others feel less afraid), social distancing, etc. and go about our lives working, socializing, and having fun…One Size (POLICY) Doesn’t Fit ALL!!!

Saying it DOES MAKE NO SENSE and Allows FEAR TO WIN!!!! Again, this isn’t the “Black Plague” that killed 1/3 of Europe’s population.

BTW, what is COVID 19’s death rate again? It keeps changing doesn’t it. Infection rates don’t seem to be as important. If it were, then authorities would need to apply these restrictive policies for the common flu annually wouldn’t we? After all, people die annually from complications of flu too, right?

No one has answered this question yet: Would the 2020 Chicago Toy Soldier Show have been canceled if it were traditionally held in Texas?

I am feeling your mind is set - which is fine. Not sure “words” will change that.
Opening retail, controlling crowds, etc great. The economy needs to move forward, I agree - a toy soldier show with thousands of elderly shoulder to shoulder isn’t the way.
 
Time to take a deep breath and relax here please.

Does this suck? Yes.
Is it the end of the World? No.
Will Shows be back with a gusto in 2021? Most likely, yes.

Let's look forward, move forward and be optimistic.

Why can’t we honor the 100,000 COVID-19 by taking proper precautions (short of cancellations) at this show, and normalizing life as much as possible without being shamed!

I say having the Toy Soldier Show would have shown strength, resilience, character, instead of FEAR and PSEUDO VIRTUE.

A guy I work with told me today that his niece had contracted Covid. She works at an buttisted living center (not a nursing home).They change their PPE for every patient yet she got it and she's only 25.Everyday more and more people think what we are being told is BS.I know more and more are fed up with these masks as the weather is getting hotter.I see the CDC and Faci flipped there tunes again.I had high respect for the CDC before this but IMO they dropped the ball on this and Faci while being brilliant in his field I don't think his bread is fully baked.

We’re no longer in the panic of the March, but into almost June.

It takes courage and will to take all these lessons, and create, execute and monitor a plan. This all can be done by mid-June allowing enough time for bookings (dealers, collectors, etc.). September is four months away!

I guess, accepting defeat is now the new American Way with the rationale: “Better Safe Than Sorry”.

Remember this virus is not the “Black Plague” whipping out 1/3 of Europe’s population.

Again, riddle me this: Would this show been canceled if it were traditionally been held in Texas?

OK Riddler. Yes, it would have been cancelled in Texas unless it was held where the Lone Ranger lost Tonto, and there aren't any hotels there.
Now answer me this: what do you have against Illinois? Specifics please. It's hard to deal with people who hate your country.

Nurse works and wears ppe - does she wear said ppe when getting gas, going to the grocery store, etc. do her parents and anyone she may have had contact with? Your premise buttumes that the only place she goes is work in ppe, lives alone and goes no where else with anyone else. She could have gotten it anywhere and maybe even from an “I’m not wearing a mask” type person out of her house. No way to know so no way to make it a blanket statement

that question is would this pandemic really have existed if the other political party was in power. because 60 million people had swine flu and thousands died and the press was silent , no panic and when somebody died it was just written off to that novel swine flu virus even though thousands died. we need to wake up in this country
